Waste Connections of Canada is a leader in non-hazardous solid waste management in North America, and is looking for a Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice for our shop at our processing and landfill facility in Navan, ON.

Shift: 7am - 5pm, Monday through Friday (45hrs per week)

Rate: $26 per hour

Position Summary:

Safety is key in our business and the mechanic plays a crucial role in maintaining both personal and equipment safety. The Heavy Duty Technician Apprentice will be assisting in maintaining WCC off road heavy equipment in safe working order. You will work directly with the Heavy Duty Red Seal Diesel Mechanic to ensure that all equipment meet all government regulations and standards for safety, as well as WCC safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in performing repairs and maintenance on heavy trucks, dozers, compactors, and other vehicles or heavy equipment to maximize safe and productive operations.

Typical repairs include but are not limited to; routine maintenance and repairing engines chassis and body components, hydraulic cylinders, brake systems, suspension systems, cooling systems, under carriage, wheels and tires.

Inspects equipment and/or trucks for condition, operations, parts and fluid levels, differentials, final drives, pump drives, and hubs.

Reads and interprets vehicle condition reports, and/or repair orders, communicates with supervisor and operator for clarification of problems.

May discuss preventative techniques with operators to minimize future repairs.

Assist in making emergency on-site inspections to make repairs on equipment that break down during operation.

Requirements and Qualifications:

Minimum registered 1st or 2nd year 421A Apprenticeship program.

Caterpillar and Volvo experience would be an asset.

Available to work between 7am - 5pm, Monday through Friday (45hrs per week).

Must be able to pass all pre-employment test.
