We are seeking a skilled and reliable Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience operating various types of heavy machinery and a strong understanding of mechanical systems. As an Heavy Equipment Operator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that projects are completed efficiently and safely.
Duties
Operate and maintain equipment as per the equipment manuals or as directed.
Complete and document daily inspections of equipment before use, including checking safety certification and maintenance records.
Perform service checks on equipment as per service manuals.
Maintain municipal roads as directed.
Construct municipal roads as directed.
Snow plow roads as directed.
Account for tools and equipment used in performance of duties described.
Maintain a daily log of work performed in the manner prescribed by the foreman.
Ensure that safety regulations are adhered to both while working on roads and in the shop.
Bring to the attention of the Foreman or Administrator any misdemeanor by employees.
Abide by cell phone regulations while operating RM owned equipment; texts/calls may only be made or taken, when the equipment is not in use or by way of a hands-free device.
Operate any equipment as instructed by the foreman - must have proper qualifications to operate equipment.
Repair and install signs and culverts.
Keep required safety tickets up to date.
Follow RM of Lacadena policies.
Perform work assigned which may include but is not limited to: mowing, fencing, rock picking, shop, office, and yard maintenance, traffic sign placement and repair, assessing, cleaning and repairing culverts.
Address ratepayers with respect and report any concerns to the public works foreman.
Must be willing to accommodate an extended workday.
Must report to public works foreman any incident or injury occurrence during work hours.
Report any equipment problems or damage to public works foreman.
Carry out any other tasks assigned by the public works foreman.
Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
Follow project plans and specifications to execute tasks accurately.
Maintain equipment by performing routine inspections and minor repairs as needed.
Collaborate with team members to coordinate work activities and ensure timely completion of projects.
Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols while operating machinery.
Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisors promptly.
Qualifications
Must possess PME training prior to running any piece of equipment and have a reasonable amount of knowledge and competence in the operation of RM equipment.
Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license
Class 1 driver's license would be an asset
Be capable of accepting instruction and working with minimum supervision.
Willing to communicate with supervisor and/or fellow employees in a respectful manner.
Must have a criminal record check and acceptable drivers abstract.
Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks associated with the role.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
