Job Overview
The Thunder Bay Airport Authority is expanding and seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. This role involves full-cycle maintenance and repair of standard and specialized equipment in line with various regulatory operational standards. The ideal candidate will have experience working with a variety of large equipment and bring an eagerness to learn and specialize in an airport environment. Training opportunities will be provided.
Responsibilities
Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, overhaul and maintain specific Airport Equipment including emission control systems, gas & diesel engine repairs, service attachments & working tools, electrical & electronic systems, hydraulic systems and drive train components
Adjust equipment and repair/replace defective parts, components or systems
Utilize hand tools and power tools safe & effectively to complete repairs and maintenance tasks
Conduct inspections to identify issues or malfunctions in equipment
Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot problems and implement solutions
Maintain a clean and organized workspace while adhering to safety protocols and performing all duties in accordance with company health and safety regulations
Assist with heavy lifting and moving of equipment as necessary
Other related duties as required
Required Knowledge/Experience
5+ years experience working in heavy equipment repair and strong mechanical aptitude (required)
310T or 421A Certification (required)
Valid DZ License (required)
Experience in 12V/24V- CanBus, electrical and hydraulic systems
Experience working with Airport Equipment is considered an asset
Knowledge and/or experience working with HVAC systems is beneficial
Holding an active ticket or certification in Welding is preferable, welding systems experience required
Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in light to heavy equipment diesel repair
Proficiency in using power tools and hand tools for assembly and repairs
Technical computer skills to run equipment diagnostics
Physically fit to twist, bend, or stand for extended periods of time, capable to lift 40lbs comfortably
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Restricted Area Identification Card, Criminal Records Check & Clean Driver's Abstract
Hours of work: Monday-Friday, some On-Call evenings and weekends especially during winter months.
Occasional travel may be required
