Role:
Intermodal Heavy Duty Mechanics perform major and minor repairs, overhauls and servicing on all types of vehicles, vehicle attachments and material handling equipment. This position requires you to work night shifts and partial weekends, as required.

Salary:

Licensed Intermodal Heavy Duty Mechanics earn a $44.37/hour wage.

Critical performance areas include the following:

\xc2\xb7 Inspect, service and maintain Intermodal cranes, terminal tractors, vehicles and equipment, in accordance with federal and company regulations, including changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts.

\xc2\xb7 Diagnose diesel / gas engine, electrical, hydraulic, driveline malfunctions and making required repairs.

\xc2\xb7 Use electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, lubrication equipment and other vehicle repair tools and equipment, and operate said tools and machinery in a safe and effective manner.

\xc2\xb7 Use measuring devices and understanding visual displays.

\xc2\xb7 Repair various yard equipment machinery.

\xc2\xb7 Prepare inspection, maintenance, and work reports, and record details on prescribed forms in accordance with established procedures.

Working Conditions:

\xc2\xb7 Ability to work irregular shifts, including evenings, midnights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.

\xc2\xb7 Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, performing overhead work, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds (22 kg).

\xc2\xb7 Shop environment, ability to work inside shop and outside shop in all weather conditions.

\xc2\xb7 Must be able to work at heights up to 60 feet.

\xc2\xb7 Comply with safe work procedures and policies.

Employment Requirements:

\xc2\xb7 High School diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma (GED).

\xc2\xb7 Diploma of Vocational Studies in Heavy Duty Mechanic.

\xc2\xb7 Diesel mechanic, Automotive, Truck & Coach, Hydraulics experience.

\xc2\xb7 Valid driver\'s license.

\xc2\xb7 Technical knowledge of diesel mechanics.

\xc2\xb7 Good hand-eye coordination.

\xc2\xb7 Possess your own tools sufficient to perform repairs and service on small equipment. Tools specific to the railway are supplied by the company.

Assets:

\xc2\xb7 Experience troubleshooting hydraulic and electronic systems.

\xc2\xb7 Commercial Transport or preferably Heavy Duty Working experience.

\xc2\xb7 Welding skills.

\xc2\xb7 Relevant work experience in similar working conditions or regulatory/safety environment.

\xc2\xb7 Post-secondary education.

\xc2\xb7 Basic computer skills.

Training:
Successful candidates will receive paid on-the-job training on new products and updates as required by the company, both theoretical and practical instructions.

Depending on your level of experience, candidates must have completed 2nd year and registered with trade branch for 3rd year and will attend a series of courses at your work location in Canada or away from your work area for training purposes. Training will include intermodal equipment components, control systems, air brakes, start up, basic diesel electric systems and CN maintenance regulations. Truck motors, data recorders, as well as fuel, oil, water and air systems will also be covered. Successful completion of this program is essential for performance of future duties.
