Academic Position for Advanced Heart Failure/Transplantation Clinician Investigator, Cardiology

Department: The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health

Applicants are invited to apply for a Heart Failure/Transplant (AHFTx) Clinician Investigator to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital and Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.

The University of Alberta\'s Division of Cardiology is an integral part of the Department of Medicine.

• The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute is a state-of-the-art facility that delivers tertiary and quaternary cardiac care services for the City of Edmonton, Northern Alberta, and parts of British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and portions of Saskatchewan.
• The University of Alberta and Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute are home to one of the premier AHFTx programs in the country, with full-service capabilities.
• As one of the largest Heart Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) institutions in Canada, we provide the breadth of cardiac care, including percutaneous, temporary and durable MCS, as well as complex, high risk cardiac surgeries and interventional procedures.
• The comprehensive nature of these programs allows us to offer a successful Fellowship Program in AHFTx.
• In addition, the Mazankowski Alberta Heart institute is home to a renowned Heart Function Clinic, with broad expertise, including areas such as Inherited Cardiomyopathies and Cardio-Oncology.
• The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute is also unique by providing collaborative Pediatric, Adult Congenital and Adult Cardiac Care with regular collaboration between Adult and Pediatric colleagues.
• The University of Alberta is also home to a highly successful post graduate Internal Medicine, Cardiology and several Cardiology Fellowship training programs with Area of Focused Competency (AFC) accreditation in Echocardiography and Interventional Cardiology.

The successful recruit will join a group of 36 cardiologists including four other AHFTx physicians. In keeping with our vision statement of exemplary patient care, discovery and education; the successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop in a premier institution within an established and thriving AHFTx Team.

Qualifications:

• The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent.
• They will be eligible for certification in Cardiology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada.
• Furthermore, they will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and have Specialty Fellowship training in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplantation.

Key accountabilities of the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant position will include, but will not be limited to:

• Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant inpatient consultation
• General Cardiology Inpatient service
• Emergency Room Cardiology Triage
• Heart Function Clinic
• Outpatient General Cardiology and AHFTx Clinics
• endomyocardial biopsies and right heart catheterizations
• equitable share of Division of Cardiology undergraduate and postgraduate teaching responsibilities.

The Division of Cardiology boasts successful internationally recognized research in Acute Coronary Syndromes, Heart Failure, Pulmonary Hypertension, outcomes, basic and translational research. The successful candidate will be expected to have a presence in collaborative and investigator-initiated research.

A contingent tenured appointment at the rank to be determined within the Department will be offered to the successful candidate, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement.

Remuneration:

Remuneration will be on the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP), which offers a very competitive remuneration package with excellent benefits.
