The De Beers Group has an opportunity within the Safety, Health, Risk and Training Department at the Gahcho Ku\xc3\xa9 Mine for a committed and creative Health and Wellness Superintendent. Reporting to the Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Training Manager, the Health and Wellness Superintendent will help to develop and execute a comprehensive Health and Wellness Strategy, which includes the oversight of the Gahcho Ku\xc3\xa9 Mine\'s medical services and the generation of site-specific health and wellness plans and initiatives designed to service the site\'s employees and contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee operation of the on-site medical clinic and contracted medical staff;
  • Develop and oversee allied health programs by outsourcing and managing third party vendors for services such as Occupational Therapy, Medevac Services, Immunization Programs
  • Liaise directly with the site\'s medical contract service provider, De Beers Group and Anglo American Health Leads, the site\'s Management team, and individual employees and contractors on all matters related to health and wellness;
  • Partake in Community of Practice and other working groups with the aim of keeping the mine site compliant to all Anglo American and De Beers Group medical standards and required interventions;
  • Maintain the site\'s electronic health records system (QMED) and facilitate any required audits in order to ensure data accuracy;
  • Analyse medical data to determine trends within the site\'s employee and contractor workforce and develop programs designed to educate and motivate the workforce towards a healthy lifestyle;
  • Drive compliance to the site\'s medical evaluation requirements under applicable Anglo American and De Beers Group Health Standards, including those specific to Workplace Health and Trauma/Emergency Care;
  • With support from a third party Industrial Hygienist and the Safety, Health and Risk Team, create and execute an Industrial Hygiene sampling and reporting program which identifies areas of concern for remedial activities;
  • Build and maintain partnerships within the NWT Public Health System through collaboration and consultation engagements as they are available;
  • Provide assistance within scope of practice as required in emergency medical situations under direction of the Physician Assistant;
  • Contribute to case management discussions for both workplace injuries as well as non-related work injuries including the development of return to work plans and follow up consultations;
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and other communication materials designed to inform management, while still maintaining the highest standard with respect to medical confidentiality.
This is a site-based position on a 4 days in/3 days out rotation working 10 hours per day with the pick-up point in Yellowknife, NT.

Qualifications
  • Physician Assistant: Graduate of PACCC-approved or ARCPA-approved program in good standing with CAPA
OR
  • Registered Nurse: Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate nursing program with license to practice in the Northwest Territories, certification in Occupational Health Nursing an asset;
  • Five to ten (5-10) years of medical experience within a remote setting such as a mine site or other industrial operation;
  • Experience in the development and implementation of medically based health initiatives to a non-medical audience;
  • Residence in the Northwest Territories preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of medical records systems, MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Incident Management;
  • Experience in Industrial Hygiene would be considered a strong asset however training will be arranged for the right candidate;
  • Excellent planning, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills are essential.
