Summary:
This role leads and supports student and staff health and wellness across GYPSD through strategic planning, collaboration, and program delivery. It implements mental health programs, mentors student wellness initiatives, organizes division-wide events, and supports staff well-being through training and professional learning. Working with partners like Alberta Health and ASEBP, the role promotes a culture of wellness and belonging throughout the division.
This is a 10-month position. The Health and Wellness Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Inclusive Learning.
The Division is open to a work arrangment within the Grande Yellowhead Public School Division. The official work location will be determined and approved by the Director of Inclusive Learning.
Role and Responsibilities:
Plan, organize and present targeted universal mental health programs for students in classrooms at a universal level;
Mentoring students and guiding them through the completion of high school CEUs for student designed presentations/learning opportunities/events;
In partnership with our BEST coaches, will support staff in learning how to best support students struggling with mental health and wellness needs;
Support and facilitate information sessions, that are co-constructed with students , and develop events for days related to mental health such as PINK Shirt Day, Mental Health and Wellness Week and community events such as Mental Health and Wellness Fairs;
Play a key role in staff health and wellness strategies across GYPSD;
Offers training on staff health and wellness, along with practical tools to integrate wellness initiatives into their schools;
Work collaboratively with partners such as Alberta Health, ASEBP, and other jurisdictions;
Provide confidential individual support for staff in the area of well-being;
Facilitate professional learning opportunities at schools and division office;
Serve as a collaborative partner with the HR team in supporting staff health and wellness initiatives.
Support the Board's priority of health and wellness through participation in initiatives, activities, and meetings;
Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Director of Inclusive Learning.
Requirements:
Past experience in the Education Sector or Health and Wellness field;
Completion of a degree in Social Work, Education, or Psychology;
Working collaboratively and effectively with a wide variety of teams, groups, and external agencies;
The ability to assess complex and sensitive situations to determine reasonable solutions and supports;
Ability to develop high levels of trust and confidentiality with individual staff members;
High levels of motivation, adaptability and flexibility;
Proficiency in writing, speaking, presenting, and technology use.
Have the ability to build positive relationships and is experienced in trauma informed practices
Have experience in planning interventions (universal, targeted and/or individualized mental health/indicators of mental health assessments, development of social-emotional competencies, mental health literacy, etc.)
Experience providing tools, training and resources to a community (school community).
