We're actively recruiting a Health and Safety Specialist. This professional will assist with the development, improvement, implementation and communication of methods and controls directed toward maintaining the prevention of accidents and incidents in the workplace for their assigned locations. In collaboration with the Corporate Health & Safety team, leadership and other stakeholders, they will help to drive our health and safety culture and play a pivotal role in achieving our health and safety goals and objectives, maintaining our best practices and applicable safety certifications across our business.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and coordinate regional implementation of the company's Health and Safety program and work collaboratively with others (Senior Leaders, Regional Directors, Corporate H&S and HR etc.) to ensure all aspects of the Company's health and safety program are effectively communicated
Collaborate with committees/representatives, employees, department managers, Health & Safety Team, and others to evaluate and update hazard assessments, training requirements, safe work practices, and safe job procedures to ensure health and safety related training is delivered and tracked as required by legislation
Contribute to the development of health & safety strategies and continuous improvement outcomes to improve employee and organizational excellence in health and safety
Advise employees, managers, and committees/representatives on health and safety program policies and procedures and on legislation
Support program implementation through preventive measures (e.g. inspections, training, communications, meetings, committee engagement, etc.), and corrective measures (e.g. investigation, injury management, etc.).
Collaborate with others to identify and address gaps in the health and safety program and in its implementation
Maintain sound working knowledge of current and relevant health and safety legislation, standards and requirements
Ensure assigned audits and inspections are conducted according to requirements
Monitor compliance with the company's health and safety program, and with relevant legislation
Cooperate with occupational health and safety officers, inspectors, and others to monitor compliance and take corrective action
Ensure regional compliance by conducting site safety audits
Work with on-site leaders to ensure they are conducting routine safety audits and workplace inspections at each assigned location and are maintaining accurate and complete information related to health and safety program implementation
Act as member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee and assist in the facilitation of the JHSC meetings
Provide material for toolbox talks according to legislation or Company's requirements
Participate in, monitor and report progress on leading indicators, lagging indicators and health and safety related initiatives
Participate in cross-company special projects and initiatives
Prepare safety presentations and present to leadership and/or employees regarding safety updates and data
Assist in the coordination of investigative efforts relating to incidents, accidents, and other environmental issues ensuring timely and effective resolution of any and all issues arising from such situations
Foster and reinforce the mind-set of prevention and early intervention as it relates to safety
Other duties as required
POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:Certificate or Diploma in EHS, Occupation Health & Safety, or related discipline
Valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract
Valid passport
Experience:3+ years of experience in a Health and Safety position
Experience working within a manufacturing or industrial environment
Understanding of safety programs such as COR & WSIB Safety Excellence Program
Knowledge of multi provincial/state health and safety legislation
Knowledge of building and implementing safety standards and processes
