This position is presently located at the St. Thomas OR Woodstock site.

This posting is for one (1) current vacancy.



This position is anticipated to extend from December 29, 2025 until January 8, 2027, subject to availability of work and funding.



Reporting to the Program Manager, the Health Promoter is an integral member of a multidisciplinary team. The Health Promoter applies their expertise in determinants of health, health promotion and community development to support programming under the Ontario Public Health Standards (2008) and the relevant legislation such as the Health Protection and Promotion Act. The Health Promoter identifies program priorities by reviewing existing epidemiological, behavioural and socio-demographic data, and thorough assessments of community assets and needs.

Through facilitating community mobilization, the Health Promoter builds capacity and partnerships around shared health priorities. The Health Promoter provides assigned area expertise to other Health Unit staff, the public, the media, health professionals, teachers, caregivers and other community leaders. The Health Promoter maintains current knowledge of the literature and best practices and critically appraises research to assist with setting priorities, targeting programs and developing public health strategies and health promotion interventions. The Health Promoter may be assigned to one of several programs in the health unit.



Qualifications:



EDUCATION

Completion of a bachelor's degree in a health or social science related area, with an emphasis on health promotion

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Over one year and up to two years of experience, which includes up to one year of on the job experience and training Knowledge of health promotion strategies, population health approaches, behaviour change theories, policy development, community development and group facilitation Knowledge of legislation (Ontario Public Health Standards) Knowledge and skills in the following areas; community mobilization; healthy public policy development; mass/multi-channel media and communications; social marketing; behaviour change; partnership development and group facilitation; advocacy and depending upon the program assignment, other areas such as smoking cessation and youth engagement Knowledge of one or more of the following program areas - chronic disease and injury prevention, family health, infectious disease control, sexual health, STIs and HIV, vaccine preventable disease, and environmental health

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, set priorities and work independently Strong interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate with community groups and agencies and work in an interdisciplinary setting

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Valid Ontario Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle Must comply with the current Ontario Public Health Standards Adherence to SWPH's policies and procedures in order to maintain confidentiality

Terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement.

Salary Range:

$38.06/hr to $43.25/hr based on verification of qualifications and experience (70 hours in a two-week period).



Will receive vacation pay each pay period as well as pay in lieu of benefits following successful completion of the probationary period. Offered enrollment in the OMERS pension plan (if enrolled, in lieu benefits will reduce).

A criminal reference check completed within the last six (6) months from a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPID), inclusive of vulnerable sector screening, will be required of the successful candidate.



Immunization Requirements:

Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, are able to provide proof of immunization, and acknowledgement to follow Southwestern Public Health's policies and processes related to COVID-19 management in the workplace.
