Public Health Mobile Unit (PHMU) is a provincial PH program developed in 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The PHMU program is evolving as a Public Health transformation area of work to continue to support community work. The PHMU work delivers health services to communities across the province supporting emergency preparedness, healthy communities, health protection, early years, and immunization.
Reporting to the Manager, Public Health Mobile Unit, the Health Promoter works with Assistant Managers and Public Health colleagues to understand population health needs and apply health promotion strategies to improve health and reduce health inequities. The Health Promoter works with community partners across multiple levels to take action to create supportive social, economic, and physical environments that protect and promote health. The Health Promoter uses evidence informed strategies to advocate for healthy public policy and system change through community engagement, coalition building and partnership development. The Health Promoter continually assesses understanding of community health through ongoing and informal means (gathers local intelligence, seeks out experiences and stories) and uses formal community health assessment processes. The Health Promoter uses persuasive communication and strong facilitation skills to build partnerships to advance the work of system/culture change. The Health Promoter will use evidence throughout the planning cycle (assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation) to build understanding, motivate and inspire action, among colleagues and community partners. The Health Promoter will play a key role in supporting Nova Scotia\xe2\x80\x99s Public Health Mobile Unit\xe2\x80\x99s through engagement with organizations and communities, using a health equity lens, coordination of communication and knowledge translation tools to support public understanding of PHMU\xe2\x80\x99s program interventions and supporting development of evaluation tools and analytics for ongoing monitoring and reporting and process development and documentation.

About You


We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Health Promotion/ Public Health plus five years community based/Public Health experience OR Masters degree in Health Promotion/Public Health plus two years community-based/ Public Health experience
  • Experience in planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion programs, policies, services, and initiatives
  • First Aid/ CPR Certification
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Core Competencies for Public Health and LEADS.
  • Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated knowledge translation and communication skills, including written and verbal
  • Understanding of a population based approach
  • Demonstrated success in building strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners to support healthy communities work.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and conflict management skills; strong judgement, decision making and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of health impact assessment
  • Travel will be required. A valid drivers\' license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred

Hours


  • Permanent Full-Time; 70 hours biweekly
  • Beginning as soon as possible
  • Shifts may include occasional nights, holidays, and weekends
  • Travel will be required.


Compensation and Incentives


$35.09 - $45.61 Hourly
