Job Title: Health Officer

The role of the
Health Officer
is to coordinate the scheduling of medical appointments and Immigration Medical Examination for newcomers.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Assist in the coordination of Immigration Medical Exams, including scheduling appointments, gathering client information and documents to send to clinics
Notifying clients of appointment date and time
Arranging transportation/interpretation, and scheduling x-ray appointments.
Develop and deliver all health-related orientations and assist clients in navigating the Newfoundland and Labrador healthcare system
Coordinate interpretation and transportation services to facilitate access to health and mental health services
Attend to individual client needs and assess eligibility for health related services
Keep informed of current health resources, trends, needs, changes, and service gaps
Ensure proper and accurate data collection and reporting
Other duties as required
Qualifications and Experience:
Degree/Diploma in Human Services/Health or equivalent combination of training and experience
Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment
Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills (oral and written)
Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity in working with a diverse client group
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of the settlement process and health issues facing immigrants and refugees
Experience in, and knowledge of, the provincial health care system is an asset
Ability to speak a second language is an asset
Conditions of Employment:
Legal authorization to work in Canada
Valid class 5 driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
Flexible to work outside of core hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm)
Position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
