Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Health & Safety, the
Health Claims Specialist
will manage all aspects of workplace injury claims and related WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) matters across Ontario. This role supports employees and management through the claims process while ensuring compliance, cost-effectiveness, and safe, sustainable return-to-work strategies. They will function as the internal subject matter expert on claims and accommodation, using data and insights to improve outcomes and strengthen safety culture.
Responsibilities
Manage and process WSIB claims from initial injury reporting through to resolution, including documentation, forms, and liaison with WSIB, medical providers, and employees.
Serve as the primary contact for injured employees, ensuring clear, supportive, and timely communication throughout the claims process.
Develop, monitor, and manage modified work and return-to-work programs in collaboration with employees, supervisors, and healthcare providers.
Ensure compliance with the Ontario Human Rights Code, OHSA, WSIA, and privacy legislation (PHIPA) in all claims and accommodation efforts.
Prepare and distribute regular reports on claim status, costs, durations, and trends, providing insights and recommendations to leadership for prevention and program improvement.
Contribute to safety meetings and initiatives by sharing learnings from incidents and claims data.
Support audits, ensuring claims records and processes meet regulatory and privacy requirements.
Deliver training to supervisors and managers on injury reporting, claims, and RTW processes.
Collaborate closely with site supervisors, Safety, and People & Culture teams to ensure timely and coordinated claims handling.

Qualifications
Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
2+ years of demonstrated experience with return-to-work planning, accommodation, and modified duties.
Strong knowledge of WSIB processes, OHSA, WSIA, employment and human rights legislation in Ontario.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills with the ability to support both employees and management.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple cases and priorities simultaneously.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with incident tracking software or HRIS is an asset.
Certification in Disability Management, HR, or Health & Safety (e.g., CDMP, CHRL, CRSP) is an asset; candidates working toward certification are encouraged to apply.
Ability to travel occasionally to sites across Ontario (approx. 10-25%).
