What is the HCAP program?
The Health Career Access Program is a Minister of Health 2-year funded pathway for individuals who wish to obtain their Health Care Assistant (HCA) certification.
The program alternates between course modules and on-site work experience. The participants will receive stipends when studying and the tuition and course materials are funded. When working on-site, the participants will be paid wages as a Health Care Support Worker.
This education opportunity requires candidates to have an interview and meet the English language requirements of the post-secondary institutions.
NO
previous experience in Health Care is needed. The program also requires candidates to be either Canadian or possess permanent residency
There are up to 5 seats available.
Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be able to apply and accept any Health Care Assistant position.

SUMMARY OF POSITION - Health Care Support Worker
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Care and under the direction of a Registered Nurse, performs a variety of non-direct and/or non-clinical healthcare supports to residents, families, and/or visitors in accordance with the established care plan and safety requirements and the organization's mission and values.
Responsibilities include:
1. Participates as an integral member of a healthcare delivery team to provide a variety of non-direct and/or non-clinical healthcare supports to residents, families and/or visitors to meet established needs.
2. Establishes rapport with residents and families, and assists in promoting physical, emotional, cultural, social, and spiritual well-being. Observes residents and their environments to identify and report unsafe conditions, behavioral and/or physical changes to designated supervisor.
3. Assists with mealtime activities; sets up, welcomes and transports residents to dining areas, sets up and collects meal trays, assists with limited food preparation such as heating prepared food, making tea, coffee, toast, etc. where residents require support.
4. Provides assistance in carrying out activities; sets up supplies and equipment, assists with transporting residents to designated areas, encourages participation in activities and provides support to residents where required.
5. Performs housekeeping duties such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, dusting, washing dishes, and washing, drying, folding, and delivering laundry, where required.
6. Greets visitors and others in accordance with established safety, security and infection control procedures and guidelines; provides information and/or redirects to appropriate person or area, where required.
7. Checks and restocks supplies as required, including personal care, first aid, and housekeeping supplies and assists in taking inventory.
8. Completes and maintains related records electronically, or using communication books, daily log sheets and progress reports related to non-direct and/or non-clinical healthcare activities.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education , Experience and other requirements:
Minimum grade 10 in English for candidates educated in Canada, OR successful completion of English test.
Canadian citizenship or permanent residency
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to deal with others effectively.

Physical ability to carry out duties of the position.
Ability to operate related equipment.

This Canadian government program (HCAP) requires candidates to either be Canadian or possess Canadian Permanent Residency. Please confirm (Yes or No) that you have either one of them.
This government program requires candidates to understand, read, speak and write English at grade 10 and over. (transcripts or English test results will be required). Do you possess this English level?
This program requires to be available to work BOTH day (7 am to 3:00 pm) AND evening (1:00 TO 9:00 pm) shifts, Monday to Friday. Please confirm (Yes or No) that you are available to work both day and evening shifts.
