About the Opportunity

The OSI Clinic provides specialized mental health assessment and treatment to clients and their families referred by Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC),Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and the Department of National Defense (DND), who are experiencing work-related psychological stress and trauma (e.g. Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, and other anxiety disorders; Depression; Chronic Pain, etc.). The services of the OSI Clinic are provided by an interdisciplinary team consisting of a psychiatrist, occupational therapist, psychologists, nurse clinicians and a social worker. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the social worker delivers mental health treatment services to Veterans and their families.

The OSI Health Care Social Worker will also be required to:

  • Maintain OSI-specific work load measurement outcome monitoring and data collection (e.g. RAI) as required
  • Provide education with various OSI stakeholders e.g. VAC District offices
  • Maintain contact with the referring VAC case managers, RCMP, and DND in the development of the treatment plans and referrals
  • Utilize OSI supported telehealth services mental health and other distance technologies in the provision of services in outlying communities
  • Work with the Canadian network of OSI clinics, and follow the leadership of the Operational Stress Injury National Network
  • Design and provide program evaluation and satisfaction surveys within OSI clinic guidelines
  • Contribute to research as a part of the national OSI clinic network
  • In addition to guidelines and policies of the NSHA, work in a manner that is in compliance with VAC standards for OSI clinics
About You
  • Master\'s degree in Social Work from a recognized university
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW)
  • A minimum of two years related clinical experience required
  • Training in evidence-based therapies for PTSD, depression, anxiety disorders and knowledge of substance misuse required (PE, CPT, EMDR, CBT, BA, MBSR) an asset
  • Knowledge of mental health best practices, community services, and crisis response
  • Experience working in an interdisciplinary service delivery model is mandatory
  • Experience providing evidence-based trauma focused therapy if preferred
  • Experience with assessment of police, veterans and/or Canadian forces members with operational stress injuries including anxiety, mood, and substance use is an asset
  • Experience working with families and couples is required
  • Experience in group work is required
  • Experience providing mental health services on an on-going outpatient basis is preferred
  • Sensitivity to the unique needs of military/police services personnel who are experiencing service related mental health problems
  • Knowledge of psychiatric rehabilitation principles and practices
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain good working relations
  • Commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement, Best Practices and Team Work
  • Effective mentoring and clinical supervision skills to support both the academic role and the clinical practice of other team members
  • Provide services in local and satellite locations
  • Valid driver\'s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Willingness to work variable hours and evenings
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

$36.59 - $48.10 hourly
