Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) Position Summary:
The HCSW is a non-clinical role that provides supports to clients and residents in long-term care and assisted living. HCSWs are supervised by nurses or other health care professionals where possible.
Participants must complete all pre-requisites courses and orientations prior to starting work. These include health and safety requirements; an HCSW online orientation; and a safety resource checklist. HCSWs are compensated for their time to complete the pre-requisite courses
Eligibility Requirements:
Entry requirements for the Health Care Support Worker training program are based on the minimum qualifications to register with the BC Health Care Aide Registry. The Education and Skills requirements include:
Education
Grade 10, including the successful completion of English 10 & Math 10, or equivalency.

Health Care Assistant Program Overview:
While participating in HCAP, you will be enrolled in a Health Care Assistant (HCA) training program at a partnering post-secondary institution.
he Ministry of Health will direct employers to pay HCAP trainee's a stipend (funded by the Ministry) while they are on leave completing the education components. We anticipate this stipend will be $930/week and may be paid out with the employer's regular payroll (i.e. every 2 weeks).
HCAP participants will be subject to a 12-month return-of-service. Employers will be provided with the negotiated return of service agreement.
Upon successful completion of the 12-month HCA training program that includes 2 practicum placements, the employee will be eligible to register with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry and become employed as an HCA.
