Your Opportunity:
The Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton is a full-service pediatric hospital and centre for complex pediatric care and research. It is the only specialized healthcare facility for infants, children and youth in central and northern Alberta and has among the highest inpatient volumes of any children's hospital in Canada. This position with the Stollery Surge Capacity Inpatient Float Pool will be used to support the seasonal Stollery Surge Unit and provide year-round support to the Stollery Inpatient Units including medicine, cardiology, hematology, oncology, and surgery. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, the Health Care Aide is responsible for providing personal care by supporting activities of daily living, assisting inpatient assessments and procedures, providing comfort measures to patients and their families as well as simple charting in patient's records. Other duties include but are not limited to: portering, delivering specimens to labs, ordering supplies, cleaning and maintaining equipment, and monitoring unit tidiness. Physical requirements include long periods of standing, walking, and lifting. The role may require the provision of constant care. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers as well as all members of the health care team. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. The successful applicant the Stollery Surge capacity response and inpatient relief, inclusive of Stollery surge capacity beds and inpatient units (4C, 4D, 4E3, 4E4, 5G4).
Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- Health Care Provider (BCLS- HCP) certification must be recognized by the Heart and Stroke Foundation and must be recertified annually. Committed to family-centered care and a desire to work with children in an acute care environment is required. Good communication, time management and organizational skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with recent acute care experience in pediatrics. Preference will be given to candidates with previous child care experience and/or education.
