AHS is the largest acute care service provider in Alberta and is part of a fully integrated provincial public health system. AHS' Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton, is a full-service pediatric quaternary care hospital. It is associated with the University of Alberta where multidisciplinary health program students are trained, & health research is facilitated. It is the only specialized healthcare facility for infants, children & youth in central & northern Alberta, and has among the highest inpatient & acute ambulatory service volumes of any children's hospital in Canada. The Health Care Aid (HCA) will report to the manager of Unit 4E4, Pediatric Medicine. The unit has 25 beds and accepts patients from birth to 18 years of age. Patient populations include respirology, neurology, nephrology, mental health, general internal medicine, & overflow demand from other pediatric care programs requiring inpatient beds. In collaboration with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams, the HCA is responsible for delivering care by supporting activities of daily living, assisting with assessments and procedures, providing comfort measures, & documenting care in the patient record. Other duties include portering, specimen delivery, maintaining inventory, ordering supplies, cleaning and maintaining equipment, & monitoring unit tidiness. The successful applicant will be oriented and cross-trained across program units and, over time, to other Stollery ambulatory and inpatient areas to support system capacity. The HCA plays a key role in providing safe, quality, patient and family-centered care, aligning with AHS's mission, vision, and values, & following Stollery's policies and procedures. As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.
