Your Opportunity:Reporting to the Unit Manager in the Department of Neuro Rehabilitation, the Health Care Aide (HCA) works as an unregulated direct care provider on the Tertiary Neuro Rehabilitation unit. As a member of the nursing and interdisciplinary team, the HCA supports the overall provision of care as assigned, assisting the patient with activities of daily living (examples include personal care, feeding, mobility), comfort (e.g. bed positioning), and safety. The HCA also provides indirect services to support the overall provision of care in their assigned area. The successful candidate will be under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. The types of supervision (direct or indirect) will depend on the complexity of the task or procedure being assigned, the stability of the patient and the skill level of the HCA performing the task. Minimum knowledge and skill requirements for the HCAs are acquired through education based on the provincial curriculum for Health Care Aides. The specific skills of the HCA relative to the requirements of the position are determined, in this order, by applicable legislation, the employer (based on need and safety of the patient population), the characteristics of the care setting and the individual knowledge and skill of the HCA. HCAs are responsible and accountable for the tasks and support functions assigned to them, and for understanding tasks or functions they are able and/or not able to perform in a particular setting. Required Qualifications:Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification. Additional Required Qualifications:Experience working as an HCA in a hospital setting is required Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with patients, visitors and staff. Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written English. Proven ability to work independently and show initiative within the healthcare team. Proven flexibility, conflict management and dependability Effective organization and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to function effectively and collaboratively within a patient and family centered healthcare team. Able to request and accept direction as required. Able to understand and relate to patients in a caring and respectful manner. Physically able to perform all assigned tasks as this unit is classified as heavy (examples include transferring of patients, other activities require standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, carrying during the entire shift). Basic computer skills including the use of Connect Care will be required. Current BCLS - HCP certification is a job requirement.
