Your Opportunity:

The Nursing Attendant/Health Care Aide provides patient care services as an unregulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Unit 68 is a 36-bed Medical/Surgical Unit that will have a mix of both General Surgery patients and General Medicine patients. Duties include: Provides appropriate care, as delegated following Alberta Health Services policies, procedures, and established standards. Demonstrated consideration of patient/client/residents\' comfort, safety, privacy, independence, choice, and dignity.

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification. Additional Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 education Diploma required. Graduate from an educational program using the Provincial Curriculum for Health Care Aides required. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) required. Must be able to communicate clearly in verbal and written English. Knowledge of hospital equipment and supplies is required. Ability to provide basic patient care and comfort required. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Self-direction within the scope and duties of the job required. Preferred Qualifications:

Effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/clients, families, visitors, and team members. Basic computer skills are an asset. Effective time management skills. Understanding and compliance with the AHS code of conduct.
