Your Opportunity:

Come join our team on unit 93/94! The Health Care Aide (HCA) is an essential member of the interprofessional team on this acute internal medicine and pulmonary unit. Under the direction and supervision of the RN, LPN, or licensed healthcare professional, the HCA provides direct patient care to assist in the activities of daily living, mobilization and provides indirect services to support the overall provision of care in their assigned areas in collaboration with their team and within their defined scope of practice. The HCA maintains a high standard of quality care, is self-directed, motivated, and has effective time management skills. The HCA demonstrates patient- and family-centered care by giving careful consideration to patients\' comfort, safety, privacy, independence, choice, and dignity. The HCA promotes a positive work environment by operating within the AHS Code of Conduct and core values. The successful candidate will maintain professional practice including but not limited to mentoring of unit staff, ongoing professional development, participation in quality improvement initiatives, promotion of a safe and supportive work environment, and demonstration of accountability. Within the collaborative care model, the HCA will use effective communication, engage in conflict resolution, critical thinking, problem-solving, flexibility, and reliability.

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification. Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP), AHS Annual Competencies including \'It\'s Your Move\' and additional courses based on unit expectations, current N95 Fit Test. Experience as a Health Care Aide in an acute medical or surgical unit within the last 2 years. New grads who have completed a final practicum in an acute care setting may be considered. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients and families in stressful situations. Demonstrates consideration of patient\'s comfort, safety, privacy, independence, choice, and dignity. Ability to work collaboratively with team members. Able to handle the physical demands of the position, including but not limited to being on feet for duration of the shift, lifting/assisting up to 50 pounds, turning, safe transferring of adult patients and equipment. Demonstrates and meets appropriate infection prevention and control requirements by following standard practice for all patients, including proper hand washing technique. Strong communication skills; must be able to speak, read, write and comprehend English. Basic knowledge of computers and software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office, Connect Care). Preferred Qualifications:

Experience using mechanical patient lifting devices preferred. Familiar with CoACT & the Collaborative Care Model.
