Your Opportunity:The Nursing Support Team (NST) is a team of RNs, LPNs, and Health Care Aides (HCAs) that support patients from newborn to 18 years of age. Health Care Aides in the Nursing Support Team will work on Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3, Unit 4, Surgical Short Stay, and the Rotary Flames House at the Alberta Children's Hospital. Patient populations include general pediatric medicine, general surgery, trauma, orthopedics, plastic surgery, endocrinology, neurology, nephrology, urology, metabolic, eating disorder, mental health, cardiology, respiratory, respite and palliative care. As a Nursing Support Team Health Care Aide, and under the supervision of an approved Health Care Provider, you will provide ongoing supervision and care for the physical, psychological, and emotional/ social needs of children, youths and families admitted to the areas that Nursing Support Team supports within a framework of Patient/Family Centered Care. The Nursing Support Team provides a variety of opportunities for growth and learning in an engaging pediatric care environment. The successful candidate will be able to develop a variety of pediatric skills while working in a supportive learning environment. The incumbent may be required to work in other care areas of the hospital as needed. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.
