Your Opportunity:This opportunity allows you to become 1 of 10 new 0.8 FTE Regularized Relief Health Care Aides in Mackenzie Place (Float Team). Reporting to the Relief Team Manager, you will be scheduled to work shifts in both Designated Supportive Living (DSL4) units and the Enhanced Care Unit (ECU). The DSL4 units provide clients with a home where they can enjoy privacy and independence with the comfort of knowing their health and personal care supports are on-site when needed. The ECU is a dynamic environment that is designed to meet the needs of individuals who present with a combination of dementia syndrome and complex behavioral issues. The Health Care Aide participates as an unregulated worker in the delivery of quality client care by performing services necessary for the physical/emotional well-being and comfort of the client under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). You must be available on days, evenings, weekends, and stats. Duties include assisting clients with activities of daily living, personal care, lifting and transferring, and assisting with health care tasks/procedures as necessary. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.Description:As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.

Required Qualifications:Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification. Additional Required Qualifications:Must be willing and able to float to all three units as staffing needs require, including on short notice. Preferred Qualifications:Experience in seniors' health and/or Palliative Care is an asset. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI). Medication Assistance Program (MAP). Foot care course/experience. Current BLS (CPR) registration.
