Your Opportunity:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will be an active team member providing direct care to children and families as an unregulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) within the Rotary Flames House. You will be providing pediatric palliative care to children and their families. Pediatric palliative care is an active and total approach to care, embracing physical, emotional, social and spiritual elements. Pediatric palliative care focuses on the enhancement of the quality of life for the child and support for the family. The Health Care Aide - Rotary Flames House will demonstrate the following key competencies for this role: Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required; Effective interpersonal and communication skills with children, families, visitors and other team members; A compassionate and caring attitude that conveys respect and dignity for all persons; Demonstrated initiative, accountability, time management skills, and problem solving ability; Exceptional organizational skills.

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification. Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience within the last five years working with children in a care giving capacity. Current CPR-BCLS. Ability to communicate fluently both verbal and written in English. Must be available for all shifts. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience within the last five years working with children as an HCA in an acute health care or community health care environment. Previous experience within the past 5 years working at Rotary Flames House. Experience within the last five years working in palliative care. Experience with Connect Care. Computer skills (Microsoft Office, email). Completion of \xe2\x80\x9cHow to Care, What to Say\xe2\x80\x9d workshop and/or \xe2\x80\x9cNavigating the Journey\xe2\x80\x9d course for Health Care Aides. Current N95 fit testing.
