This is a temporary rotational camp role required at our client site in British Columbia. The role is "Sequential", meaning there are 2 people in different positions, working on alternated schedules to cover for each other.Seasonal:April 30, 2025 October 1, 2025 (Travel on April 29, 2025).Position Overview:The position requires involvement in day-to-day HSS operational, technical, and administrative support. The Health and Safety Technician is responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of the requirements outlined in the Project HSS Execution Plan. The Health and Safety technician will assess and improve operational HSS performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and support project onboarding and HSS compliance initiatives.The hours of work will consistently range from (6:00am6:00 pm) 14 days on x 14 days off rotation.Key Result Areas for this position may include and are not limited to:

  • Report to and take direction from the project HSS Manager.
  • Apply intermediate-level technology constructs to propose new methods for creating and sustaining a productive work culture and a safe work environment, inclusive of improvements to address challenges such as preventing human injury, environmental degradation, and unsafe working conditions and practices.
  • Support health and safety training, programs, and processes with a visible and uncompromised commitment to the protection of project employees.
  • Assist with the preparation of design certification/classification programs and the preparation of supporting HSS documents in alignment with project-specific HSS initiatives.
  • Apply regulatory requirements to provide intermediate scope recommendations to project management
  • Assist in monitoring HSS standards, applicable laws and regulations; and review project plan to assess compliance with all governmental regulations and project requirements.
  • Document work requiring evaluation, selection, and adaptation/modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria, for example, coordination and execution of HSS plans and support studies, Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Fire Protection Specifications (FPS), and perform analysis of regulations against intermediate size project needs so that design will comply with regulations.
  • Promote and foster Company HSS standards and goals with programs throughout the project to confirm a safe and productive work environment.
  • Prepare records, reports, or documents that may be required to meet corporate or regulatory requirements, including monitoring intermediately complex application of HSS standards and goals through its programs.
  • Implement project learning management system to ensure onboarding and training compliance items are met by project personnel and contractors through mobilization and gate processes.
  • Ensure new and inexperienced workers are enrolled in the New Employee Development (NED) program and applicable documentation is completed. Ensure mentee is assigned a competent mentor approved by project.
  • Ensure contractors are maintaining training records, hazard ID cards, field level hazard assessments, safety data sheets, and other project HSS documentation to document compliance with project procedures and permitting requirements.
  • Assist in the development of applicable risk reviews and hazard assessments for scopes of work being performed.
  • Ensure contractors are completing first aid assessments and adequate first aid coverage is readily available as outlined in applicable legislation and project procedures.
  • Track corrective actions from incident and inspection logs through to completion and/or implementation.
  • Ensure contractors are submitting weekly KPIs as outlined in the project HSS Execution Plan.
  • Attend all required training and meetings as determined by project.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 7 years experience working on major projects with 5 years in a Health and Safety technical role on major projects.
  • Education in Occupational Health and Safety (minimum OHS Certificate)
  • Education to support technical writing (Graphic design, digital marketing, BA Education, etc.)
  • Incident Command Training (Minimum ICS-100)
  • WHMIS / GHS Training.
  • Strong working knowledge of BC OHS Legislation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to influence positive safety culture on major projects.
  • Proficient with computers and software programs including Power Point, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe.
