At O.K. Industries Ltd., we've been building and maintaining the roads, highways, and infrastructure that connect Vancouver Island communities for over 60 years. We're proud of our people-first culture, commitment to excellence and safety, and strong reputation in the construction and roadbuilding industry. With divisions across the Island, our operations include asphalt paving, aggregate crushing, concrete curb and gutter installation, sealcoating, and traffic control.
We're not just building roads--we're building careers. We're building teams that care about each other and the communities we serve. And right now, we're looking for a passionate Health & Safety Specialist to help us continue doing that safely and effectively.
The Role
As our next Health & Safety Specialist, you'll play a key role in strengthening our safety culture across multiple divisions, supporting field crews and supervisors with practical tools, training, and on-site guidance. You'll be out in the field as much as you're in the office--ensuring compliance, leading investigations, building safety programs, and being a trusted resource for our teams.
You'll work directly with our Health & Safety Manager and report to senior leadership. If you're looking to make a meaningful impact and support a workforce that values accountability and care--you'll fit right in here.
What You'll Be Doing
Support and enhance our health & safety programs across paving, crushing, asphalt plants, sealcoating, and shop operations
Conduct site visits, audits, risk assessments, and inspections
Lead or assist with incident investigations and corrective action planning
Deliver safety orientations and toolbox talks
Help ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC, COR, and internal standards
Collaborate on continuous improvement projects, new procedures, and crew training
Supporting the effective operation of Joint Health & Safety Committees
Liaising with WorkSafeBC and other regulatory agencies
Be a visible, reliable presence across jobsites--someone crews can turn to and trust
Who You Are
A strong communicator who can engage with both field and office teams
Someone who balances "boots on the ground" support with policy and process work
Motivated, organized, and ready to take initiative
Calm and confident when handling incidents, investigations, and tough conversations
An eye for detail and a genuine passion for making workplaces safer
Qualifications
3+ years experience in a professional full-time health & safety role (construction or industrial preferred)
Working knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations, OHS programs, COR Audit programs, and investigation protocols
Excellent organizational, time management, and documentation skills
Relevant certification (e.g., CRSP, NCSO, or equivalent) an asset--but not required
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to worksites across Vancouver Island
