The Role:
The Health & Safety Specialist will be responsible for implementing and enforcing health and safety policies and procedures across the facility. You will be responsible for conducting inspections, investigations, and audits independently. The Specialist can recommend corrective and preventative actions to management.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Health and Safety Specialist will aid in various health and safety activities as assigned.
Health & Safety Compliance:
+ Ensuring the facility complies with all applicable OSHA regulations, food safety requirements, and company policies.
+ Monitor and maintain compliance with industry-specific safety standards related to food production and safety. Risk Assessments and Hazard Control:
+ Conduct job hazard analysis, risk assessments, and evaluations.
+ Identify, evaluate, and mitigate safety and health risks related to equipment, processes, and environmental factors. Incident Management:
+ Thoroughly investigate accidents, near misses, and safety-related incidents.
+ Report to WSIB and manage claims in a timely manner.
+ Conduct root cause analysis and ensure implementation of corrective and preventive measures.
+ Complete modified duties evaluations and assessments. Training & Communication:
+ Develop and deliver monthly safety training programs for all levels of employees, including new hire onboarding training.
+ Organize engaging and innovative routine H&S training workshops.
+ Communicate weekly safety updates, procedures, issues, and emergency plans with management and employees to increase safety awareness.
+ Attend and train supervisors and managers on safety talks with employees. Audits & Inspections:
+ Perform regular plant safety audits, equipment inspections, and PPE assessments.
+ Ensure proper documentation of inspections and timely resolution of findings.
+ Maintain and update emergency response plans, including emergency drills while coordinating with local authorities.
+ Inspect existing and create new SWPs for all sections. Recordkeeping & Reporting:
+ Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on incidents, training, inspections, and regulatory reports.
+ Maintain and develop H&S policies and forms.
+ Track and accurately record H&S metrics and dashboards.
+ Prepare and submit safety logs and other required safety documentation accordingly.
Any other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related fields.
HACCP Certification.
3-5+ years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in Manufacturing.
Knowledge of OH&S standards, SQF, GMPs, and HACCP principles.
Experience with risk assessments, incident investigations, safety audits and inspections, and emergency preparedness drills.
