Where does the Health & Safety / Environmental Specialist fit in? The position will champion the implementation and audits related to the ISO14000 & 14001 standards. Develop and implement safety and environmental programs around those standards and will be responsible for overseeing these programs. The incumbent will work with production to support with job specific training programs to ensure knowledge on equipment across all functional areas of the plant to ensure safety across the production floor.
What you can expect as our next Health & Safety / Environmental Specialist:

  • Review the company\'s health and safety program annually
  • Lead the implementation of improvements to the existing heath and safety program.
  • Research, develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures
  • Advise management and employees on the interpretation of health and safety policies and procedures
  • Track and investigate injuries, and develop and implement countermeasures to prevent further injuries. Communicate injuries and countermeasures to raise awareness
  • Develop and implement company-wide visual health and safety key performance indicators
  • Responsible for leading the company\xe2\x80\x99s Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings and oversee completion of all identified issues
  • Accountable to ensure monthly workplace Inspections are completed for all facilities and reviewing results for any further actions required
  • Facilitate equipment risk assessments and weekly Health & Safety reviews with cross-functional team
  • Maintain company emergency plans and conduct random practice evacuations.
  • Conduct ergonomic workplace assessments in order to review and assess work processes to prevent injuries
  • Serve as the organization\'s representative to the Ministry of Labour, Ministry of the Environment, Public Health and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board
  • Ensure all MSDS\xe2\x80\x99 are active, organized and up-to-date within the company ERP system
  • Spearhead the implementation of ISO4000 $ 40001 standards
  • Lead the Environmental Management System
  • Ensure compliance with customer, government and ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Organize internal and external environmental audits and implement corrective actions. Coordinating with the audits and inspection material to ensure conformity with the plan
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times and protect employee privacy
  • Coordinate and verify the work progress as per the relevant specifications and company\'s environmental systems
  • Assist in designing, preparing, implementing and maintaining the environmental management system
  • Reduce the impact on local environment by pollution control, implementing plans for controlling wastes, removal of hazardous substances, management of water in accordance to the legislated requirements
  • Overview and coordinate environmental operations in order to ensure permit renewals and regulatory compliance
  • Inspect the site for environmental compliances. Determine the root cause of environment issues and plan for appropriate actions to overcome them
  • Maintain clear and complete documentations for reference purpose of the environmental management system
  • Liaise with the management to upgrade activities and schedule periodic maintenance
  • Work with cross-functional groups to maintain monitoring programs and environmental management. Determine areas of improvement to lessen environmental wastes and impacts
  • Develop contamination control programs to reduce hazards and accidents
  • Any other duties are performed under the guidance and direction of the Supervisor/Manager

Are you our next Health & Safety / Environmental Specialist?
  • 5 \xe2\x80\x93 7 years of Health & Safety focused experience
  • Post-graduate Diploma or Degree in HR/related field or equivalent experience
  • Must have a sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Experienced in the ISO 14000 & 14001 standards and must be familiar with relevant health, safety and environmental regulations, standards and guidelines.
  • Occupational Health and Safety specialization program preferred
  • JHSC certification preferred
  • First Aid/CPR Certification preferred
  • CRSP designation preferred
