Job Description

Summit Veterinary Pharmacy is currently looking for a Health and Safety Specialist to fill one full-time vacancy in our busy Human Resources Department team.

Located in Aurora, Ontario, Summit has been supplying prescription compounded medications to veterinary clinics across Canada for over 20 years. Principle Responsibilities:



Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety regulations, rules, permits and licenses relevant to the site. Industrial Hygiene: Update and regularly maintain chemical risk assessment program, Air and surface quality testing and reporting, respiratory protection program, Perform, review, and maintain Job Hazard analysis for employee tasks. Perform workplace safety audits Coordinates and is responsible for the collection and analysis of Health and Safety statistical information, produces reports on relevant Health & Safety data, identifies trends in accidents/injuries and develops preventative strategies including communication strategies to raise awareness. Ensure that hazards, unsafe conditions and safety concerns are corrected in a timely manner. Provides ongoing advice, guidance and support to all levels of management and employees on issues pertaining to Occupational Health and Safety including making recommendations to the executive team. Lead and assist management in carrying out complete and timely accident investigations, providing advise and making recommendations on the reduction of risk and incident re-occurrence. Lead and co-chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee, conduct workplace inspections (JHSC and independent). Maintain and Update Safety Training program, including, JHSC, first aid, walkie stacker, spill response, etc., as required per legislation. Implement, update and maintain relevant Policies and Procedures according to legislation, such as the Occupational Health and Safety Acts, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. Attends the Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings, supports the committee and acts as a resource for all Health and Safety issues. Formally takes minutes during Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings. Facilitates the delivery of safety training courses and presentations. Provides subject matter expert input into the development and delivery of health and safety training such as; identification of members requiring training, ensuring that the operational and legislative requirements are met, delivers formal training to members on Health and Safety related matters as needed. Train, facilitate and ensure safety concerns and incidents and accidents are reported promptly, and level of investigation supports the identification of root cause (s) and immediate and preventative actions. Coordinate with head pharmacist to ensure Health & Safety practices align with OCP requirements. Maintain fire safety program, including fire drills, fire warden training, etc. Other related duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills:



Bachelor's Degree (Human Resources or related field). Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and/or Certificate in Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) designation. Active member of the HRPA; CHRL or CHRE designation an asset. A minimum of 3 years' experience working in a Health and Safety capacity. Experience working in a pharmaceutical, manufacturing is an asset. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Able to keep track of your priorities while managing a high volume of interruptions. Strong time management, organization and planning skills, and attention to detail. Excellent presentation, conflict resolution, interpersonal, facilitation and communication skills (written and verbal), as well as the ability to build relationships. First Aid Certified

Educational Requirements:



Associates degree, Trade or Technical School Diploma Vocational school or some college Bachelor's Degree

Specific degree requirements, courses of study, licenses etc.



University Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and formal education. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and/or Certificate in Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) designation Joint Health and Safety Certificate level 1 and 2 Certified

Schedule:



Monday to Friday - Approximately 40 hours per week Day Shift : 9:00am to 5:00pm
