POSITION SUMMARY





The Health and Safety Manager will identify operational, physical and environmental factors that may cause or contribute to incidents or injury to staff, workers, and visitors. This role is responsible for guiding Urban One toward achieving and, where appropriate, exceeding compliance with Provincial and Federal legislation. Additionally, the Health and Safety Manager will act as a source of guidance and information for the Health and Safety Committee, Human Resources, management, and technical staff.




ESSENTIAL FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES




Comply with and effectively implement Urban One's Safety Program to ensure safety and environmental standards are met or exceeded Create and drive initiatives to further develop the Urban One safety culture, working closely with the Operations team to ensure adherence and execution at the site level. Establish, implement, and enforce policies and health and safety procedures. Inspect workplaces and monitor field staff for safety and health hazards. Investigate workplace accidents or illnesses in conjunction with management. Analyze incident trends and injuries to identify focus areas to minimize injuries. Provide support to management, employees, and contractors in the areas of health safety and environment. Manage comprehensive modified / return to work programs, COR Certified Health and Safety Compliance, COR certified Injury Management System Claims Management, and Injury management collaborating with HR. Lead and continually develop all Urban One safety programs, policies, safe work practices, hazard assessments, safe job procedures, and safety related training. Manage the maintenance, procurement, and training requirements for all safety equipment. Identify and evaluate risks associated with the physical, chemical and biological hazards in the workplace and recommend changes to eliminate or control these hazards. Oversee safety related documentation control tasks. Develop and deliver in-house training programs and work with external providers for specialized training. Handle the administration and management of safety training certification for Urban One employees. Provide monthly Safety Reporting for the Operations Manager, VP Construction, and the President. Mentor and provide subject matter expertise to our dedicated team of field-based Construction Safety Officers (CSO's and NCSO's). Attend Prime Contractors Technical Advisory Committee (PCTAC) with the BCCSA. Develop and implement safety statistics reporting. Establish interpersonal rapport with all levels of the organization to increase employee engagement and drive improved communication to build a self-sustaining culture of Health and Safety. Work with Human Resources to grow Health and Safety team as required.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE




8-10 years of construction safety experience including work on major multi-discipline projects Proven track record of effectively managing health and safety on behalf of the Prime Contractor Strong interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills Strong computer skills Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) credentials Strong understanding of Health and Safety Legislation, Workers' Compensation, and recognized industry standards Occupational First Aid Level 3
