Position
Manager, Health & Safety, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the General Manager, Operations, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
Lead, guide and operationalize the development and implementation of B2Gold Nunavut's safety culture, strategy systems, and policies;
Provide support and expertise in identifying site risks and hazards and provide recommendations on appropriate actions to mitigate risks. Lead and conduct investigations of major incidents, making recommendations for corrective action and following up to ensure that proactive steps are implemented;
Monitors and analyzes health and safety metrics, including trends and performance indicators and addressing areas in need of improvement;
Collaborate with site managers and operations teams to monitor and track health and safety KPI's. Continuously coach and support operations teams to enhance the accident prevention culture;
Encourage a positive health and safety culture and provide guidance and support to superintendents and team members to promote compliance;
Oversee and direct all required safety and training for safety personnel, managers, employees, and contractors, including the maintenance of company and regulatory records and files;
Lead the Health and Safety team to support the development, review, and implementation of Health and Safety Management system processes, programs and documentation as required Management and oversight of the comprehensive health and safety management system;
Oversee internal audits and inspections of operations, ensuring strict compliance with company and regulatory requirements, provide recommendations and mitigate gaps in compliance, and follow up to make sure that non-compliance issues are corrected in timely fashion; and
Manage and coordinate the B2Gold Nunavut health and safety risk management program.
Competencies and Requirements
Ten (10) years' of experience in a safety, health, and training leadership role a remote mining environment;
Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety required, OR adequate experience and Gold Seal Certification considered in lieu of;
Canadian Registered Safety Professional Designation and Mine Rescue Certification required. Train the Trainer and Supervisor Level II or related certifications considered an asset; and
Prior experience working in a remote camp setting with limited access to resources and working with Indigenous groups in a professional capacity required.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the annual salary for the role is $195,000.00 with 20% Bonus.
