Newmarket-Tay Power Distribution Ltd. (NT Power) delivers electricity to almost 50,000 customers within the Town of Newmarket, Town of Midland and Tay Township. Headquartered in Newmarket, Ontario, NT Power has an additional office in Midland, Ontario, approximately one hour north of Newmarket along the shores of Georgian Bay.

We require a dynamic, highly motivated, and proactive Health & Safety Manager to work out of our head office in Newmarket. This is a full-time position, with a comprehensive benefits package and pension plan.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Health & Safety Manager is part of the Human Resources team, reporting to the Director, People & Culture. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting all areas of Health and Safety within NT Power. This position also provides leadership, management support, and helps shape the future direction of the health and safety program at NT Power. You will be a Health & Safety leader, promoting the culture of the organization, and supporting initiatives for staff, external stakeholders, and the general public while our employees are working offsite.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate as a resource in the facilitation of the NT Power Health and Safety Program and Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)
  • Work closely with the Operations group to enhance NT Power\'s Health & Safety program.
  • Work with members of the JHSC to proactively identify and prevent workplace hazards, act as a Management Rep on the JHSC.
  • Organize, direct, and supervise Health & Safety work activities to ensure timely and efficient completion.
  • Oversee the worksite audit process to ensure scorecard and regulatory compliance, and to identify safety issues and follow-up to ensure issues are resolved.
  • Recommend and implement corrective actions, when required.
  • Ensure equipment testing and inspections are completed according to schedules.
  • Review and update policies, procedures, and standard operating processes.
  • Track and react to safety metrics and provide reports; identify and analyze areas for opportunities and recommend remedial action for improvements and efficiencies.
  • Oversee effective completion of required health and safety training programs.
  • Facilitate Hazard and Risk assessment processes and maintain the risk registry.
  • Manage the Building Evacuation and Fire Safety Plans for NT Power\'s facilities.
  • Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post-secondary education in a Health and Safety, Ergonomics, Occupational Hygienist, or another field of education relevant to the duties of the position, and/or an acceptable combination of directly relevant education, training, and experience
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Designation, or in pursuit of, considered a definite asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive Health & Safety experience with previous experience in a utility environment.
  • Class G drivers\' license.
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety, and high ethical and quality standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and general health and safety requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable specific safety laws, regulations and codes that may apply to work completed by NT Power (Electricity Act, One Call Act, Electrical Utilities Safety Rules, Utility Work Protection Code, Building Code, Fire Code, etc.)
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Intermediate administration and organization skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work in an office environment, as well as environments involving construction sites, climbing ladders, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
