The Healing & Reintegration Outreach Worker takes a lead role in planning, organizing, and implementing culturally appropriate services within the Justice Healing & Reintegration Program, in collaboration with the Justice Services Assistant and in consultation with the Justice Programs Manager. Regular updates are provided to the manager about work performance, progress, and difficulties.
This is considered a mid-level to intermediate-level role, with responsibilities and compensation adjusted based on the candidate's experience and qualifications. The ideal candidate is compassionate, culturally aware, and committed to supporting Indigenous peoples involved in the justice system.
Responsibilities include:
Supporting individuals involved in the justice system, and as they return to the community from treatment or incarceration;
Providing case management, healing and reintegration plans, and court navigation support;
Facilitating restorative approaches such as healing circles and restorative circles;
Involving Elders, families, and community members in healing and reintegration processes;
Collaborating with the Justice Services Assistant to lead the delivery and coordination of diversion programs, probation support, youth initiatives, and alternative measures.
Engaging the community through workshops, information sessions, and cultural events;
Leading recognition days (Orange Shirt Day and Red Dress Day), and supporting relevant programs and events;
Building and maintaining partnerships with justice stakeholders, FNFN departments, and local stakeholders;
Researching best practices and contributing to program design, evaluation, and improvement;
Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements, and;
Contributing to overall community safety by combining client support, program delivery, and interagency collaboration. Other related duties.
Valued Qualifications
Experience & Knowledge:
Two (2) years of experience in social services/human services work;
Experience with case management practices and privacy protected information;
Experience providing community support, or justice services;
Postsecondary/relevant certification(s) in social work, social sciences, or related field (or equivalent experience, including life experience);
Cultural knowledge and sensitivity of the Fort Nelson First Nation community;
Knowledge of community supports and services, including mental health, housing, and training/employment opportunities;
Skills & Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Excellent interpersonal and organization skills;
Ability to balance direct client support with reporting, program development, and collaboration;
Ability to demonstrate empathy and active listening;
Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including law enforcement, social services, community members, community organizations, and within the workplace;
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace;
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients facing trauma or systemic barriers;
Other (required):
Ability to demonstrate respect, cultural humility, and a belief in healing and restorative approaches as pathways to safe, stronger communities.
Compliance with BC Immunization program and TB Screening.
Satisfactory completion of a police information check (vulnerable sector).
Ability to provide own transportation to work.
Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and Drivers Abstract.
Optional (assets):
Bachelor of Social Work, Social Services Worker Diploma, Social Sciences Degree, or other related education.
Previous First Nation experience.
Familiarity with the Court and Incarceration programs.
Ability to speak Dene and/or Cree.
Other certificates such as: WHMIS, First Aid.
Work Setting
This work takes place Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., with the potential of one weekday from 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. (client/program dependent), and occasional requirement to work during recognition days and weekend events. Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computer and peripherals. May handle sensitive information and documents. May be required to use Personal Protective Equipment. May be exposed to hazards associated with the sector.
