Grandview Kids provides an array of specialized programs, rehabilitation services, and outpatient clinical treatments to children and youth with physical, communication, and developmental needs. Programs and services - which are delivered at the Centre, in the community, at schools, and in-home - include: medical consultation, assessment, and diagnosis; audiology, autism support; complex care program; occupational therapy; physiotherapy; respite services; social work; speech-language pathology; therapeutic recreation; and family engagement. Grandview Kids actively participates in research to support innovation in rehabilitation science, to advance organizational capabilities, and to better serve caregivers and the developmental needs of their children and adolescents. Grandview offers summer camps for children and youth 4- 12 years of age with physical, communication and developmental needs living in Durham Region. Please note that CAMP will be held in our Ajax location at 1461 Harwood Avenue, Ajax ON.

Head Leader, Summer Camp (Contract Full-Time) - 2 Positions

37.5 hours per week (1FTE) Salary: $20.50 per hour (1st year), $21.00 per hour (2nd year returning), $21.50 per hour (3rd year returning) Contract Duration: June 22nd, 2026 - August 28th, 2026 Core hours for Summer Camp staff are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday. Onsite / In Person

Summary of Duties

Under the general direction of the Program Manager, Inclusive Recreation and supervision of the Camp Coordinator, Head Leaders provides leadership, supervision, direction and support to the Special Needs Counsellors and Nursing Students; implements a wide variety of recreational activities; ensures adherence of Client Supervision and safety procedures by all camp staff working with her and ensuring the integrity of sites used for activities offered in off hours the safety of program clients and the integrity of sites used for activities; assists in indirect client care through the completion of attendance reports and other administrative responsibilities as required; provides leadership, direction and support to program volunteers; maintains communication with all other staff members and community representatives; supports departmental/Centre efforts in Quality management (QM) activities; participates in education, orientation and public relations as required; maintains a safe work environment; performs other related duties, as assigned.

Responsibilities

The Head Leader provides leadership, supervision, direction and support to the Special Needs Counsellors by:

Implementing providing direction to camp staff that enhances their contribution Providing camp staff with supervision, direction and encouragement Communicating concerns to the Program Manager, Inclusive Recreation or Camp Coordinator Assisting with conflict resolution when required and fostering a work environment of teamwork and mutual respect Submitting program plans to Camp Coordinator for approval a minimum of one week prior to implementation Working collaboratively with camp staff to plan program activities Obtaining approval for planned activities from Camp Coordinator or in their absence, Program Manager, Inclusive Recreation Evaluating program activities and communicating results to the Camp Coordinator and/or Program Manager Taking all appropriate measure to reduce risk for program participants Responding to parent's questions in a timely and respectful manner Adhering to established Centre wide and departmental policies and procedures Consistently utilizing safe work practices Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a related post-secondary diploma or baccalaureate program Minimum one year experience working with children and youth with physical, communication and developmental needs Minimum of one year experience working in a camp setting Current CPR and First Aid Certification

To meet the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Funding Program eligibility, which supports this role, applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment, and legally entitled to work in Canada.

You are a superior communicator, both written and verbal with exceptional organizational and time management skills. You possess excellent interpersonal skills, and work effectively with families, all levels of staff, and ensure continuity of care. You have a deep commitment to family-centred care and a passion for working with others to support children to achieve their personal best. You will have experience working in camp settings with children and youth with physical, communication and developmental needs combined with education in a related field.
