Position Title: Head Instructor - CIT Camp
Reports to: Coordinator, Aquatic & Leadership Programs
Job Type: Temporary Contract, Summer
Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: Variety Village, Scarborough ON
Salary: $19.25-$20.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications

Summary:
The Head Instructor is responsible for leading and delivering the Counsellor in Training (CIT) Camp program at Variety Village. This role supports teens in developing leadership, teamwork, communication, and professional skills within a safe, inclusive, and supportive camp environment. The Head Instructor supervises and mentors CIT participants, coordinates daily activities and placements, and works closely with camp leadership to ensure a positive and structured learning experience for all participants.#

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Plan, coordinate, and lead daily CIT camp programming and leadership activities. Supervise, mentor, and support CIT participants throughout the program. Facilitate leadership skill development in areas such as communication, teamwork, responsibility, and professionalism. Coordinate hands-on learning opportunities and leadership placements within camp programs. Model positive, inclusive leadership and professional behaviour at all times. Provide regular feedback, coaching, and guidance to CIT participants. Support behaviour management using strength-based and inclusive approaches. Maintain a safe, structured, and respectful learning environment. Track attendance, participation, and volunteer hours for CIT participants. Communicate with families and caregivers regarding program expectations, progress, and concerns. Collaborate with camp leadership and instructors to integrate CITs into daily operations. Address participants concerns and challenges in a timely and supportive manner. Support emergency procedures and follow facility safety policies. Complete administrative tasks and other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Key Competencies:Previous experience in a Junior Head Instructor role or an equivalent leadership position within a camp, recreation, or youth leadership setting is required. Experience mentoring, coaching, or supervising youth or teens Strong understanding of leadership development and youth engagement Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in integrated settings is an asset Valid Standard First Aid with CPR (required) Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Confident, adaptable, and supportive leadership style Dependable, professional, and able to work in dynamic environments
