Chefs in Training

Head Instructor

, you will be responsible for providing the lead instruction as well as overseeing other instructors and ensuring a safe, productive and enjoyable experience for all campers. Applicant should be a post-secondary student or have equivalent in a related discipline.


Serving as an introduction to the culinary arts, in this camp participants will get to try new foods, read recipes, and practice food preparation basics such as measuring, mixing, and knife handling! This high-in-demand camp has a strong focus on food hygiene and kitchen safety, as such, in addition to the aid and supervision of our qualified staff, our budding chefs will be paired or grouped in rotation to allow each camper to participate with and as a "peer safety spotter" during the practice of advanced cooking/preparation techniques. And let's not forget about the best part of this camp: when the food is ready each camper will get to eat their tasty creation and/or take it home to share... that is if they save any for you! Campers will also enjoy a hot, nutritional lunch and recreational swim.

WHAT IS AMAZING ABOUT THIS JOB:


Develop, plan, and supervise respective summer camp program Create activities that are welcoming to join/observe aspects of camp (for shy or timid campers) Instruct and lead specialized activities with campers and instructors Design schedules for activities that allow for the highest quality experience Follow and ensure camp procedures and policies are always adhered including Appleby's Mutual Respect Policy Provide leadership to Instructors, as well as maintains a positive working relationship with all other staff members Ensure the safety and supervision of all campers, staff, and visitors Provide progress reports, suggestions for improvement, and voices concerns to the Director, Camp Programs Maintain high levels of professionalism and public relations, demonstrating a courteous attitude toward participants, parents, staff, visitors, and parents Adhered to Appleby College's policies and practices for all facilities, equipment, and programs Ensure safe drop-off and pick-up for all respective program campers, maintaining presence at these points; circulating, helping, and answering questions




YOU WILL BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU:


Have Post-secondary education or a minimum completion of 2nd year Proven excellence in instructional abilities in program area Acquired appropriate balance of "fun"damentals vs education/skill development Have experience in teaching and/or instructing specific Culinary programs Are exceptional in verbal and written communication skills Possess effective time management and organizational skills Can demonstrate effective problem-solving skills Are able to adapt to changing needs and circumstances Have valid Standard First Aid and CPR - C

Training & Pre-Camp

o Friday May 30, 2025-Evening


o Saturday May 31 and Sun June 1, 2025-Full Day


o Saturday June 14, 2025-Full Day


o Sunday June 15, 2025- Full Day


Camp Session Dates & Hours

o Camp Work: as assigned Monday June 23 to Friday Aug 29 (excluding June 30 and holidays)


o Monday to Friday 8:15am to 4:15pm


o Mandatory Orientation Meeting First day of each Week 7:30-8:15
