Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Varsity Manager, the Head Coach - Field Hockey will be responsible to develop and integrate the skills of the student athletes that are in line with the values, standards, goals and excellence of the McGill Varsity Field Hockey program. Administrative tasks regarding eligibility, recruitment, scholarship requirements, and performance logs are also an integral part of this position.



Primary Responsibilities:Assess and support players in their athletic performance and skill development. Schedule and lead practices and drills to prepare athletes for competitive performance. Oversee and manage all aspects of the Field Hockey program, including competitions, practices, compliance, budgets, travel, academics, student conduct, and athlete development. Scout and recruit potential team members. Act as a mentor and guide by supervising athletes during practices and matches, providing one-on-one instruction and motivation. Supervise and mentor 1-2 assistant coaches while overseeing their working schedule and approving work hours. Required to stay up to date on all courses - i.e. CCES & Safe Sport - as per U SPORT & university guidelines


Other Qualifying Skills and/or AbilitiesMinimum of NCCP Level 2 Field Hockey coaching certification. Previous field hockey coaching experience at an equal or higher level. First Aid and CPR qualifications is considered an asset. Must be comfortable communicating in both English and French languages

Note: Expected number of weekly working hours will 22 hours during the competitive season, and 1-2 per week in the off-season.
