Position Summary
Work under the supervision of the varsity manager the Head Coach - Badminton will be responsible for developing and integrating the skills of student-athletes in alignment with the values, standards, goals, and pursuit of excellence of the McGill Varsity Badminton program. Administrative responsibilities such as eligibility, recruitment, scholarship requirements, and performance tracking are also integral to this position.
Primary ResponsibilitiesAssess and support players in their athletic performance and skill development.
Schedule and lead practices and drills to prepare athletes for competitive performance.
Oversee and manage all aspects of the Badminton program, including competitions, practices, compliance, budgets, travel, academics, student conduct, and athlete development.
Scout and recruit potential team members.
Act as a mentor and guide by supervising athletes during practices and matches, providing one-on-one instruction and motivation.
Supervise and mentor an assistant coach while overseeing their working schedule and approving work hours
Required to stay up to date on all courses - i.e. CCES & Safe Sport - as per RSEQ & university guidelines
Required QualificationsMinimum of NCCP Level 2 Badminton coaching certification.
Previous Badminton coaching experience at an equal or higher level.
First Aid and CPR qualifications considered an asset
Bilingualism (English and French) considered an asset
Additional Information:This is a part-time position
Expected workload is approximately 24 hours per week during the competitive season, and 1-2 hours per week in the off-season.
The contract is renewable on a yearly basis.
The listed salary is pro-rated based on an hourly wage.
The pay scale is determined based on the candidate's level of experience and education, at the discretion of the hiring managers.
Selected candidates are required to successfully pass their criminal background check.
