We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated

Health Care Assistant /Community support worker

to provide essential supervision, development support, and care to a 19-year-old with medical, cognitive, and emotional/behavioural challenges in the young adult's private condo and in their nearby community.

In this role, your primary focus will be on enhancing the daily living skills of the client, increasing their overall functioning, and improving their quality of life. This position requires a blend of past complex care experience, the ability to learn new client specific knowledge and skills, and the ability to work in ongoing collaboration with the young adult, their family, the rest of the care team, health care providers, therapists and other community partners.

Responsibilities



Support the young adult to participate in activities of daily living (i.e. completing personal hygiene, preparing meals/cooking, organizing the home, doing laundry, performing light housekeeping and cleaning tasks, shopping for groceries, running errands, banking, etc.) Monitor the young adult's medical conditions, administer regular and as needed medications, report and document all medical changes Support the young adult to develop social skills for the development of healthy, meaningful relationships. Accompany and support the young adult to school, medical appointments and therapeutic sessions. Engage the young adult in meaningful recreational and social activities, that create enjoyment, promote social interaction, and support skill development. Maintain accurate records of the client's development progress and medical status, and report to others. Foster a supportive environment that encourages the young adult to express their needs and preferences but also supports the young adult to make effective decisions.
Note: You will reside at the young adults' residence during your workdays, and at your own home on days off.

Note: You can sleep at night, but may be required to wake and provide care to the young adult as needed.

Experience



Previous experience in assisted living, group homes and school settings is valued. Familiarity with working with individuals with disabilities or brain injury is a plus. Proven ability in caregiving tasks such as cleaning, meal preparation, and personal care assistance. Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on empathy and compassion for those in your care. *Note: Initial and ongoing training to meet the young adult's complex needs will be provided.

Qualifications:



A diploma, bachelor's degree in a health care/human service/social service field and experience in providing care and/or working with individuals with disabilities are required Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build rapport, and the ability to flex in approach and response for better outcomes Experience working with individuals with complex challenges and/or brain injury would be advantageous but not mandatory. A genuine passion for helping others improve their quality of life through skill development.

Certifications:



Standard First Aid and CPR C certification is required. (Can be obtained after hiring.) MANDT System and/or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification is required. (Can be obtained after hiring.) A criminal record check (CRC) by the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General to allow work with vulnerable adults is required. This will need be obtained and paid for by PRESS BC during hiring process.) A driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract (obtained from ICBC) are required.

Salary/Wages

:

Salary/wages are paid on a per 24-hour day salary basis and are prorated for any occasional partial shifts under 24 hours.

The daily salary for each 24-hour shift is between $576

Hours

:

The shifts run from 8 pm to 8 pm, for each 24 hour shift.

Schedule

:

Full-time work involves working 2 consecutive 24 hours shifts in a row per week

With work hours being concentrated over a short period of time, this position is ideal for those who want significant days off to pursue other personal interests and/or study

Flexibility on the assigned workdays is possible depending on the availability of all the team members. Shift trading is supported

There may be opportunity for additional on-call shifts as they are available
