Job Summary
Harm Reduction Support Workers provide low-barrier, person-centered support to people experiencing marginalization, substance use, housing insecurity, and food insecurity. Guided by harm reduction philosophy, they meet individuals where they are at -- in community spaces and in our Drop-In Centre -- to reduce risks, strengthen safety, and build pathways to health and housing.
These positions are on our Inreach team, based out of our Drop-In Centre, where they welcome community members, provide meals and supplies, and offer ongoing support. Across both settings, they focus on HIV/HCV/STI testing and education, harm reduction supply distribution, food and housing navigation, ID retrieval, and cultural connections -- including access to Indigenous medicines and ceremonies -- alongside other supports that promote dignity, safety, and wellness.
Key Responsibilities
Support people in adopting harm reduction practices that address health, housing, food security, and wellness.
Provide information and education on HIV, HCV, and STI's.
Provide education on and distribute harm reduction materials and supplies.
Connect people with traditional Indigenous medicines, teachings, and ceremonies.
Provide connections on-site HIV/HCV/STI testing and facilitate referrals to treatment.
Refer individuals to internal programs and external partner organizations.
Provide transportation for people to attend services or return home safely.
Support food security initiatives such as meal and food hamper preparation and distribution.
Develop and deliver programming that promotes harm reduction, education, resilience, and wellness. Each worker is responsible for program delivery once per week.
Staff the Drop-In Centre by ensuring a clean, safe, and inclusive environment, while preparing and serving daily meals (Inreach Team)
Education & Training
Post-secondary education in Social Services or a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
Minimum two (2) years of experience with diverse populations and responding to cultural and social issues while maintaining dignity.
Comprehensive knowledge and/or experience working in HIV, HCV, addictions, mental health, housing insecurity, and harm reduction.
Strong understanding of the issues affecting marginalized communities.
Demonstrated experience in crisis and suicide intervention and critical incident stress debriefing.
Must have Glass 'G" Driver's License and clean drivers abstract
