The Mission Friendship Centre Society (MFCS) provides culturally grounded programs and services to support Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members. Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated
Outreach Worker
to join our team. This role supports individuals at risk of homelessness due to addictions, mental health challenges, and systemic barriers. The position involves providing harm reduction supplies, housing application assistance, wellness checks, and culturally informed supports.
The Outreach Worker must be comfortable working with
vulnerable and diverse populations
, incorporating Indigenous teachings and traditions such as smudging, drumming, and traditional medicines.
Key Responsibilities
Provide harm reduction supplies, wellness checks, and referrals to treatment and recovery resources.
Participate in community outreach with partner organizations (MOCAT, MOST, SARA for Women).
Support in-house programs, including the MFCS Breakfast Program.
Maintain accurate case notes and records.
Promote a culturally safe and inclusive environment.
Qualifications & Skills
Diploma/degree in human or social services, or equivalent experience.
Minimum two years' experience in harm reduction, shelters, or supportive housing.
Knowledge of substance use practices, treatment options, and community resources.
Training in overdose prevention and crisis intervention.
Ability to work with vulnerable and diverse populations with cultural sensitivity.
Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
Requirements
Emergency First Aid with CPR Level C.
Valid BC Driver's License.
Successful Criminal Record Check (Solicitor General).
Compensation
$23.00/hour
37 hours per week
Benefits available after probationary period.
