The purpose of this job posting is to create an active bank of candidates for six months (September 12, 2025, to March 12, 2026).





Salary range:

$24.73 - $30.09 (hourly)


Schedule:

Monday to Sunday, 8 am to 5pm

POSITION TYPES

SUMMARY OF DUTIES





Guides are key ambassadors of the museum. They are responsible for delivering engaging public and educational programming that showcases the past, present and future of STEAM science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics, as well as Canadian innovations across various fields.


Guides are responsible for the interpretation of the museum's collections, exhibitions and programs to a variety of audiences. They provide demonstrations, interactive activities, guided tours and deliver educational programs.


They also support outreach programming in schools, public libraries, community organizations and at local fairs and events, extending the museum's reach beyond its physical space and fostering meaningful connections with diverse audiences throughout the region.


Guides enrich the visitor experience and foster a deeper understanding of Canadian history, innovation, and the connections between people, technology, and the natural world.


Guides support the museum's operational needs. This may include assisting with the care and monitoring of museum spaces, services and collections, and the health and safety of visitors.


Guides play a vital role in upholding the museum's educational mission, enhancing visitor engagement, and contributing to membership and revenue objectives.


EDUCATION



Minimum 1-year post-secondary education (college or university) in the field of Sciences or Technologies, Engineering, Education, Communications, History, Museum studies or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience; Class G (Ontario) or Class 5 (Quebec) Driver's license (asset); CPR and First Aid (asset);

EXPERIENCE



Minimum 1 year experience in interpretation, education, theatrical experience in museums, tourism, schools and or related fields; Minimum 1 year experience working with children, youths and the public; Minimum 1 year experience working in a front facing or customer engagement role.

KNOWLEDGE



Knowledge of concepts of science and technology, physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, technology or astronomy; Knowledge of different learning styles and interpretive techniques to deliver public and educational programming to diverse audiences of varying ages and group size; Knowledge of concepts of Canadian history and the First Nations.

Ability to communicate effectively in both official languages; Ability to work well independently without supervision, using your time efficiently; Ability to work well as part of a cohesive team, being collaborative; Ability to deliver dynamic interpretive and educational programming in a stimulating and captivating way; Ability to asses all sorts of situations, remain calm, de-escalate and find solutions by using sound judgement; Ability to address science and technology related questions and interact with visitors with objectivity, composure and empathy; Ability to perform science experiments and scientific demonstrations in front of an audience.
