Who We Are
TVO is an agency of the Ontario Ministry of Education. The Opportunity

The Guidance Counsellor will have the opportunity to implement curriculum practices relevant to guidance and career education. Using a variety of data collection methods, you will assess and evaluate the programs around learning opportunities and experiences.
How you will make an impact
Liaise with students, teachers, and parents, and work collaboratively with colleagues and various groups and committees, on matters regarding guidance services
Provide support in the area of diploma requirements, diploma assessments and Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR)
Provide support in the administration of the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) testing for eligible students
Provide support to Administrative Services colleagues on student issues/concerns
Develop and implement accommodation plan s as required
What you will bring to TVO
Certified teacher with Guidance qualifications (Specialist) and member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
A minimum of 5 years working experience working with Indigenous students
Experience working in an Indigenous community or with Indigenous groups
Experience developing, using, and accommodating expectations based on the needs of all students, including knowledge of special education, accommodation, documentation, and legislation
Proven leadership in developing and delivering services that promote inclusion, participation, creativity, and empowerment to build a vibrant Indigenous community where safety and wellbeing are shared values
Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous ways of teaching and learning, and Indigenous culture
Knowledge and understanding of Ministry of Education's Ontario Schools (2016)
Experience with prior learning assignments; familiar with Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR) and Mature PLAR
Knowledge of the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum, district school board policies and guidelines, and legal and ethical issues related to guidance and career education
Knowledge of all policy documents, course selection, and course sequencing
Solutions-driven with excellent judgement and problem-solving abilities
Excellent administrative and organizational skills, and a solid understanding of the past and new curricula and educational options relating to the distance learner
Excellent people skills with a proven ability to work in a team environment
Comfortable working with technology including Student Records Systems and various software applications
