Reporting to the Head Grower, the Grower is a vital role to ensure that plant health is monitored and maintained according to Health Canada Regulations and Operational Requirements. This role requires the applicant to be detail oriented and a self-starter that can work with a diverse team of professionals. The Grower position is part of a highly skilled, highly motivated group that requires an eye for quality in each step of the growing process. This position is based out of Kingsville, Ontario.Job Duties: Assist the Head Grower and team in all production and postproduction activities as needed. Participate in all cultivation activities.

  • You will be responsible for growing activities in an assigned section of the greenhouse including irrigation, pest control as well as monitoring and maintaining greenhouse climate as directed by the Head Grower.
  • Monitors plant development to ascertain conditions and the existence of pests or disease; removing substandard or diseased plants to maintain quality standards.
  • In conjunction with Head Grower, determines rates of Health Canada approved fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides as required by the crop and applies and/or directs the application of them.
  • Proactively assess and strategically resolve problems as they may appear.
  • Participate in quality and productivity improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance of overall sanitation standards and set a good example for other employees.
  • Responsible for irrigation management which includes collecting and assessing daily water sheets.
  • In conjunction with the Head Grower, will aid in submitting water samples, interpreting results, and adjusting Health Canada approved fertilizers accordingly.
  • Recommend corrective actions such as removal of plants or remedial treatments as appropriate.
  • Inspect assigned growing areas daily to assess the crop, possible challenges, and evaluate greenhouse environment and irrigation strategy.
  • Monthly inspection of greenhouse to meet health and safety requirements.
  • Responsible for monitoring crop work completion in a set time frame and verifying quality.
  • Coordinate with IPM team to ensure timely and effective biological or chemical treatment of pests & disease.
  • Communicate with other departments to ensure timely and effective achievements in all greenhouse operations, including crop work, harvesting, and facility maintenance.
  • Responsible for scheduling of crop work with Operations Department
  • Calibration, maintenance, and sanitation of all grow related equipment and areas.
  • Will be required to be on call for alarms and other emergencies.
Other duties as required.Requirements:
  • Knowledge of the Health Canada regulations for cannabis (SOR-2018-144)
  • Experience with an organization regulated by HACCP Canada or experience in a similarly regulated environment (GMP, GAP, GPP)
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field preferred (or combination of education and experience)
  • 3 years' experience in a team lead/supervisory or Manager role
  • 3 years of experience as a grower, or a assistant grower,
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to create logically ordered objectives.
  • Ability to stay informed and up to date with changes in technology, code, and workplace compliance.
  • Knowledge of ERP and WMS systems an asset
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage employees.
  • Ability to work on weekends and at odd hours due to crop maintenance, possible weekend rotations.
  • Health Canada Security Clearance and work experience with a Canadian Licensed Producer (LP) is considered as an asset.
  • Fluent in Spanish would be an asset.
  • Weekend Rotation and on-call for alarms and other emergencies.
Your Environment: Work environment can be warm and humid. Able to wear the appropriate PPE including a full-face mask and spray suit as needed. Lifting to 50 lbs. on regular basis. Standing & walking for long periods of time. Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching. Ability to perform a series of repetitive operations requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity.
