Department Overview

TD applies the "Three Lines of Defence" model to risk management. Risks are owned and managed by the business (first line of defence) which is responsible to develop, operate and monitor sufficient controls. Risk Officers and other governance roles form the second line of defence while Internal Audit make up the third.

TD Securities Operational Risk Management (TDSORM) is a second line of defence function providing Operational Risk Management (ORM) oversight and challenge to TD Securities businesses and support functions globally.

TDSORM's mandate is to independently guide and challenge the business' implementation of and ongoing compliance with, the TDBG ORM Framework. The team is also responsible for providing a broad range of risk management counsel, risk analyses, reporting and support to business partners and senior management on a range of risk-related matters.

The role of the team is to help business partners proactively identify and assess risk inherent to their processes, assess their controls, and help mitigate the risk of potential business disruptions as well as revenue and reputational loss resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes / systems, human activities, or external events.

Job Requirements

  • Previous experience in wholesale banking and/or working with operational risk and control concepts
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to consider how work underway impacts other areas

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to collaborate and challenge in a global business model

  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities

This is an Operational Risk Integration role supporting TD's recent acquisition of Cowen Inc. and First Horizon Corporation. Accountabilities include coordinating with various workstream such as Enterprise, Operational Risk and 1B Governance and Control in defining, executing integration work efforts. This includes providing guidance across Operational Risk programs, ensuring blueprints are defined and aligned to project plans, and plans are in place to execute integration activities.

A key component of this role is to help ensure that, the business and regulatory needs are met, while ensuring alignment with the Bank's global ORM Framework. This role requires strong partnerships with 1st and 2nd lines of defense.

This role is responsible for effectively challenging the implementation of a broad spectrum of ORM programs and activities, including risk and control self-assessments (RCSAs), key indicators (KIs), operational risk events and change risk assessments (CRAs). The position requires effective communication as well as expertise in risk management, financial markets, and regulations.

Other Accountabilities
  • Role will support TDS ORM reporting globally, including not limited to leading integration efforts for TDS ORM Governance& Management reporting and escalations.
  • Acts as an expert on a subset of Operational Risk Programs and provides oversight and challenge on risk related items.
  • Manages the completion of project deliverables, including maintaining and tracking project plan, and developing reporting and status updates for senior management
  • Performs 2nd line challenge for the Integration Program aligned with the Change Governance Standards including challenge of risks and mitigations, readiness assessment and governance
  • Supports operational risk team direction and collaborates with others to execute on common goals
