The Group Home Support Worker provides direct care and support to individuals living in a residential setting. This role is responsible for promoting independence, ensuring safety, assisting with daily living activities, and fostering an inclusive, supportive environment. The worker helps individuals develop life skills, participate in the community, and achieve their personal goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day support to residents, including assistance with personal care, meal preparation, medication administration, and household tasks.
Implement individualized support plans and behavior support strategies as directed.
Encourage and support residents in developing social, vocational, and life skills.
Promote independence, dignity, and choice in daily activities.
Assist residents with community involvement, appointments, and recreational activities.
Maintain accurate documentation, including daily logs, incident reports, and progress notes.
Monitor and ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all residents.
Work collaboratively with the team, families, and external professionals to support residents' needs.
Respond appropriately to crisis situations, following established protocols.
Uphold organizational policies, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary education in social services, developmental services, or related field preferred).
Previous experience in a group home, residential care, or human services setting an asset.
Valid First Aid/CPR certification.
Non-violent crisis intervention or UMAB training (or willingness to obtain).
Clear vulnerable sector police check.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Valid driver's license (if required for transporting residents).
Working Conditions:
Residential group home setting.
Requires shift work and potential on-call responsibilities.
Physical requirements may include lifting, assisting with mobility, and crisis intervention.
