Job Description

The Adult Recreation Therapy Centre (ARTC) is a not-for-profit community support service located in Brantford and Brant County. The ARTC provides therapeutic and recreational programs and services of interest to meet the needs of older adults and adults with morbidities, and chronic conditions associated with aging living within the community.
We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic part-time/casual S.A.F.E. Zone (S.Z.) Group Fitness Instructor to join our team. The S.A.F.E. Zone Group Fitness Instructor provides group exercise & falls prevention instruction, monitors clients and provides education on fitness and safety, will maintaining an enjoyable and safe atmosphere for class participants. Fitness classes are offered at numerous locations in Brantford and Brant, throughout the week. The Fitness Instructor will facilitate a weekly recurring schedule of fitness classes, current availability on Monday & Wednesday weekly an asset. The instructor will empower older adults to take an active role in their health, leisure, and lifestyle, ensuring healthy living leads to healthy aging.

Responsibilities Include:

Setup and take down of space, arriving early and remaining after for discussion and questions.

Teach scheduled classes, beginning & ending on time, providing adequate components of a falls prevention exercise program, including balance, warm-up and cool-down.

Instruct participants on effective workout methods, demonstrating proper technique, modifications, and explanation.

Maintain a positive exercise experience for participants.

Keep the S.A.F.E. Zone Program Coordinator informed of participant and facility updates.

Follow safety standards, policies & procedures, facility requirements.

Ensure documentation, including attendance and registration are completed in a professional and timely manner.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Fitness Instructor Certification (OAS, PT, Kin...) or equivalent (additional certifications an asset).

First Aid/CPR certification.

Vulnerable Sector Police Screen.

Ability to travel between locations throughout the day.

Knowledgeable on human anatomy, kinesiology, and specific medical conditions.

Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies, incorporating music, cueing, and rhythm.

Ability to be professional and motivate class participants, adapting exercises to suit various abilities.

Energetic, physically well, with endurance to complete workouts with participants (bending, lunging, squatting, weight bearing / single leg lifts and more).

Lead in emergency situations if arise, able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Keep areas safe and clear, being aware of surroundings.

Organized, with excellent time management and problem solving skills.

Knowledge of community resources.

Pay: $21.00-$23.00 per hour
