POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

The groundskeeper maintains the cemetery grounds and the external grounds of the Salvation Army Citadel.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and planting shrubs, pruning and weeding and raking Services external amenities Picks up equipment and supplies Ensures proper storage and basic maintenance of equipment Performs other duties as assigned Be responsible for managing own time


Health and SafetyContribute to the overall safety of staff, volunteers, donors, clients, and guests (e.g., clear fire exits, cleans spillage; outside the buildings) Use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer. Report any workplace hazards, dangers, safety issues, injuries, or illness' immediately and ensure care is taken with all equipment and property. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:

Internal: Corps Officer and staff

External: Community, general public
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reports directly to the Corps Officer.

Direct reports: None
FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:No financial responsibility.

WORKING CONDITIONS:Work environment is typically at the facilities in generally agreeable conditions. Some duties (groundskeeping) should be performed outdoors. The performance of the job requires operating industrial equipment and tools, reaching, bending, twisting, lifting and fine motor skills. Requires moderate to high attention when handling hazardous chemicals and using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment. Ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds. Position requires significant walking and lifting Requires working in various weather conditions Use gloves Use ear/eye protection (goggles) Eye wash stations Use fume masks where appropriate Use steel toe boots

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.


Education, Qualifications and Certifications:Must be willing to obtain a Criminal Police Check

Experience and Knowledge:Up to 1 year of prior related experience in Lawn maintenance and general familiarity with Lawn equipment. Knowledge of Health & Safety Standards.


Skills and Capabilities:Represent the organization in a professional, and engaging manner. Ability to work independently and also participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment. Self-motivated and reliable Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality Effective organizational and time management skills. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Exhibit good listening and interpersonal skills, Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation.

This is a Summer Student position.
Temp Seasonal position - start date - July 2, 2025 until August 29, 2025

Hours 20 hours per week
Salary $16.00 per hour
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $16.00 to $17.83 with a maximum of $21.40.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
