Job Description

Grounds Maintenance Students maintain the Saskatoon Airport grounds and facilities, performing a variety of general labour tasks to maintain the Airport properties, such as mowing grassed areas, watering lawns, trees, shrubs, flower beds and containers. Removal of weeds and dead plant material in flower beds, containers and shrub areas; as well as weeding parking lots areas. Gather and remove litter, including curbside sweeping. Assist in planting trees, shrubs and flowers, as well as other duties as may be assigned including providing assistance to the Airport Infrastructure Team as needed. Supporting good safety practices and promoting a safe and positive workplace.

Tasks are performed with the assistance of hand mowers, operating motorized grass maintenance equipment, including minor maintenance of tools (checking oil and gas levels; greasing if appropriate) and a variety of hand tools.

Grounds Maintenance Students formally report to the Supervisor, Airfield and Fleet Maintenance. The majority of the work will be performed in the outdoor environment, in variable conditions, and will require moderate physical labour.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm

Skills, Abilities & Qualifications:

The successful candidates are currently engaged in full time post-secondary studies and registered to return to full time studies in the fall of 2025. They have transferrable work experience, including some experience and knowledge of grounds maintenance work practices, operation of hand tools and safe work habits.

In addition:

• Microsoft Office Suite experience
• Ability to communicate effectively, express ideas and concepts in oral and written form
• Ability to exercise initiative and discretion
• Ability to deal courteously, tactfully and effectively with the public
• Positive attitude
• Ability to perform in accordance with the SAA Corporate Code of Conduct
• Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships
• Ability to work with minimum supervision
• Ability to operate and maintain motorized grass maintenance equipment
• Physical ability to perform the assigned duties outdoors, for extended periods of time, and in various weather conditions.
• Ability to communicate in both official languages an asset

Condition of Employment:

• Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's License.
• Must obtain and maintain a Transportation Security Clearance and Airside Vehicle Operators Permit.
