UP Vertical Farms, a pioneering leader in sustainable vertical farming and agri-technology, is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented individuals to join our Operations team as Greenhouse Worker. This position plays a vital role in ensuring our fresh, locally grown greens are harvested, packaged, and delivered at the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Ideal candidates will have experience working in agricultural, food production, or warehouse environments, and demonstrate strong attention to detail, reliability, and teamwork. A commitment to maintaining food safety and cleanliness in accordance with UP Vertical Farms' high standards is essential.

There are full-time and Auxiliary positions available within the Operations Department at UP Vertical Farms. The position reports to the Operations Manager, with work hours that may include weekdays, evenings, and weekends, depending on production schedules.

Primary duties include harvesting leafy greens and other crops, trimming and inspecting produce for quality, packaging products for distribution, maintaining accurate harvest records, and cleaning work areas and equipment. Employees are expected to follow all standard operating procedures, safety guidelines, and food handling protocols.

Work is performed in a climate-controlled indoor environment and may involve standing for extended periods, repetitive motions, and lifting moderate weights. The role requires attention to detail, cleanliness, punctuality, and teamwork to meet daily production goals.

Performance is evaluated by a supervisor based on productivity, adherence to quality and safety standards, and contribution to the overall success of the team and company mission of growing sustainable, fresh food for local communities year-round.

Duties and Responsibilities



Include but are not limited to:

Coordinate the manual harvesting of leafy greens, ensuring the team handles produce efficiently and without damage.
Ensure proper quality control by inspecting harvested greens for any defects and ensuring only the best produce is collected.
Transport greens to processing areas, ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining quality.
Extract and inspect seedlings to ensure they meet quality standards before transplantation into vertical grow towers.
Ensure proper manual and semi-automated transplanting, ensuring seedlings are spaced appropriately and have access to nutrients.
Monitor harvesting equipment to ensure all processes are functioning optimally and efficiently.
Ensure quality control is maintained by performing manual checks on harvested crops, ensuring they meet the necessary specifications.
Sort, weigh, and package harvested crops, ensuring all procedures comply with operational standards.
Clean vertical farming systems, including grow modules, hydroponic channels, and automated irrigation lines, as per established cleaning protocols.
Ensure environmental controls such as HVAC systems, lighting, and water filtration units are properly maintained and sanitized.
Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications



Must be 16 years of age.
Must be eligible to work in Canada.
Valid Class 5 driver's license.
Steel toe shoes.
Forklift license is an asset.
Experience in farm labor or harvesting is an asset.
Preference is given to those with backgrounds or experience in agriculture, food processing, or manufacturing.

Skills and Abilities



Physical stamina to perform manual labor tasks such as standing, walking, lifting, kneeling, reaching, and bending for long periods.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
Manual dexterity and stamina to perform repetitive tasks and work in confined indoor spaces.
Ability to carefully handle crops during planting, maintenance, harvesting, sorting, and packing.
Basic technical aptitude to operate and assist with automated systems and irrigation equipment.
Strong observational skills to monitor plant health and environmental conditions.
Teamwork and communication skills.
Adaptability and willingness to learn.
Basic troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work under pressure.

Working Conditions



Must be able to work on-site at UP Vertical Farms.
Work atmosphere is professional and cordial.
Physically demanding.

Compensation and Benefits



Starting salary at CA$17.85 per hour.

Work Schedule



Approximately 20 hours per week for Auxiliary positions and 40 hours per week for Full-Time positions.
Morning, day, evening, or night shifts on weekdays or weekends.
Daily shift end times vary based on production needs.
