We're hiring a

Greenhouse Maintenance Technician

to support the daily operations and overall maintenance of our facilities.
In this role, you'll be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing equipment and systems, assisting with general cleaning and sanitation, and helping ensure the greenhouse and warehouse remain safe, functional, and well-organized. This is a hands-on role that includes physical work such as lifting, using tools, and working at heights. We're looking for someone reliable, detail-oriented, and proactive in keeping our facilities running smoothly.

Position Summary



As a

Greenhouse Maintenance Technician,

you will ensure the safe, efficient operation and cleanliness of all equipment, systems, and facilities across our greenhouse, warehouse, and housing areas. This hands-on role involves regular maintenance, troubleshooting, installation support, facility cleaning, and property upkeep. You will work closely with multiple departments under a matrix-style reporting structure. Representing BFP, you are expected to uphold our core values through professionalism and collaboration.
This position requires physical tasks including climbing ladders and scaffolds, working at heights, and supporting cleaning efforts in elevated or hard-to-reach spaces.

Core Expectations



Maintenance

: Perform daily inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on greenhouse and warehouse equipment and infrastructure.

Equipment Support

: Maintain and repair irrigation, ventilation, shading, pumps, motors, boilers, sensors, relays, and other mechanical and electrical systems.

Troubleshooting

: Respond promptly to alarms, equipment failures, and breakdowns to minimize downtime

Installation & Upgrades

: Help install and upgrade systems, infrastructure, and racking.

Working at Heights

: Safely conduct maintenance and cleaning tasks in elevated areas such as roofs, ventilation systems, and greenhouse glazing using ladders, lifts, or scaffolding.

Safety Practices

: Use fall protection equipment and adhere to all safety protocols during elevated work and general maintenance.

Tool & Parts Management

: Keep tools and supplies organized and maintain inventory of spare parts.

Cleaning & Sanitation

: Assist with regular cleaning and disinfection of greenhouse areas including floors, drains, hard surfaces, equipment, and elevated zones to support biosecurity and operational hygiene standards.

Property Maintenance

: Complete groundskeeping duties such as snow removal, salting, and grass cutting.

Order Support

: Assist with packing and loading during busy periods.

Clean Work Environment

: Maintain neat, organized, and safe workspaces at all times.

Contractor Coordination

: Liaise with external service providers as needed.

Policy Compliance

: Follow company, safety, and biosecurity standards consistently.

Additional Duties

: Support other tasks or projects as assigned by management.

Candidate Profile



Mechanical Skills

: Experience maintaining greenhouse and warehouse equipment including pumps, motors, HVAC, and controls.

Electrical Knowledge

: Basic understanding of sensors, wiring, relays, and control panels.

Maintenance & Cleaning Focus

: Committed to both the upkeep and cleanliness of the facility, understanding their joint importance for smooth operations and biosecurity.

Competence with Heights:

Skilled and confident working safely on ladders, lifts, or scaffolds while following all safety procedures during elevated maintenance and cleaning tasks.

Safety First

: Follows all safety rules, especially when working at heights or handling tools and equipment.

Tool Proficiency

: Skilled in hand and power tools, forklifts, and scissor lifts.

Problem Solver

: Effective at troubleshooting and fixing equipment and facility issues.

Detail-Oriented

: Keeps thorough records and follows procedures carefully.

Adaptable & Communicative

: Works well independently and with teams, adjusting priorities as needed.

Education & Qualifications



Minimum

2 years

' mechanical or technical maintenance experience, ideally in greenhouse or agriculture. Post-secondary education in a technical field is a plus but not required. Valid forklift license (or willingness to obtain)

required.

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

required.

Valid CPO?Approved Working at Heights Training (Ontario Ministry of Labour) - An Asset. Welding and experience with greenhouse automation (e.g., Priva) are assets.

Mental/Physical Requirements



Exert up to 15-50 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, and 10 lbs constantly. Must be able to crouch, reach, lift above shoulders, and climb ladders. Stand or walk for extended periods while performing job duties. Comfortable working in varying greenhouse/warehouse conditions including heat, cold, humidity, and moisture.

Working Relationships



Reports To:

Operations Manager. Collaborates with growers, warehouse, shipping, and other internal teams.
